Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"We purchased our original carport for our tractors in 2017. It blew to pieces in the first winds in SW VA. They were not very strong, especially with their "promise of hurricane force sustained winds". We had it replaced after months of contacting them. The second one has bent to the ground since it was installed. We are having a great deal of trouble getting them to respond and replace. They said they will "as a favor, fix it". First, the warranty is 10 year, second, it cannot be fixed since the metal has places torn open and brackets are broken! They promised action in summer after we contacted them in January of 2021. We are still waiting and it's mid Sept."

  • Oct 26, 2021, Claiming party added:
  • Other than the updates requesting if our claim has been settled, we have heard nothing else.

  • Nov 04, 2021, Claiming party added:
  • We heard from Carolina Carports recently saying they will be out to fix the structure on Friday. We will see if they show up and then what they do to “fix” it. I will update next week.

  • Nov 17, 2021, Carolina Carports Inc (responding party) added:
  • The Contractor was supposed to show up last Friday, 11/05/21 to "fix" the structure. They did not. Then Carolina Carports said they would be here either Monday afternoon (11/15/21) out Tuesday 11/16/21. They did nt show up. Today, Carolina Carports said maybe by Thanksgiving and if they don't come then, it will probably not be this year. Sounds like the same old runaround, different day.

  • Jan 05, 2022, Carolina Carports Inc (responding party) added:
  • Well, as we get within a few weeks of one (1) year since I notified Carolina Carports of the problems with the structure, it just keeps getting worse. We got a couple of inches of snow and now I can no longer get the tractor out to use on our drive. I'm attaching a picture from the original Claim condition and another about two weeks ago. It is still dark out, but now the structure is resting on top of the tractor, and roll bar (folded down) is sticking through the roof. The utility vehicle I had under the structure for over a month because of the condition it is in now. I will try to reach out again, but so far a year has resulted in no effort on their part to fix anything.

A 10 year warranty is a 10 year warranty. Carolina Carports is not doing you a favor if they fix the carport and their 'fix' must make the carport last for 10 years. Having TWO carports fall apart in less than 4 years is pretty bad! I would file a complaint with the Attorney General of your state, presumably NC, if this isn't properly fixed very fast.
