Orange Coast Chrysler Jeep-Dodge Ram Fiat has no right whatsoever to keep that information from you. I would start by filing a complaint with the CA Attorney General about this. They apparently expect you to throw away a car without knowing why and what responsibility Fiat has. That is really outrageous!
I'm trying to understand what happened. My guess is that the battery drained because it wasn't plugged in and the arcing happened when it was jump-started? Is this correct?
My friends have an EV and the battery went flat while they were stuck at home during the pandemic. They jump-started it with no problems and no concerns; they are very cautious people and research everything. So I can't see your not plugging the car in as making the death of your car your fault! I actually looked up the cost of replacing the battery because I was sure that you must have the decimal point in the wrong place - but no, you did not.
To add insult to injury you bought another Fiat EV on the assumption that the dealership was correct in saying that Fiat would buy back the car by way of honoring its warranty. Fiat did not.
If Fiat's 500e design was so poor that a badly designed electrical component killed a $27,000 battery, I believe they should honor the warranty.
Since Fiat hasn't bothered to respond, I don't know if there is some element of this story that you haven't included, but as it stands my recommendation is that Fiat take this deal. If they don't, I recommend that you take them to Small Claims Court. If you organize your case well, and you have not left some essential information out of this telling, in my opinion, you would probably win your case.
I don't mind telling you that I'm appalled by this story, and I'd be very hesitant to buy a Fiat Stellantis EV myself.
