Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"ON Monday July 12, I was a passenger on United flight 3879 from BKW to AD, being a diabetic and most recently having a hip replacement, I was forced to request wheelchair assistance. The flight and assistance was very pleasant from West Va. to Washington. On our arrival everything went downhill. 1-There was no wheelchair and I was forced to remain on the plane for app. thirty min. until a chair arrived. 2-The person that took me to my gate for flight #3358 was very patient and extremely patient after our arrival at my gate and being told that my flight had been cancelled. The agent issued me a new ticket for gate#D-4, and explained that when I arrived at this gate they would give me my seat #. On our arrival the agent at gate D-4 said I would be given a flight seat around 11:00 am, and I had at least three hrs. to wait. My wheelchair assistant of which I understood had to help me sit as close to the flight desk as possible and after being paid returned to his duties. I remained in that position for the next three hrs. unable to get to the mens room or obtain food of which being a diabetic I AM REQUIRED TO HAVE AT LEAST A BREAKFAST!! At 11:00 am when the Desk attendant arrived I
called him over explaining my situation and on returning to the desk he informed me that there was no more seats and I was placed on standby. I stated that I had been on flight since 5:30am and I had to get to Connecticut because of my condition. I was still placed on the standby list and was given the last seat after a passenger gave up his seat for the plane complimentary ticket. I was forced to struggle to my seat because of not being able and or not having time to request another wheelchair. Due to the fact the airlines forced me to pay an additional $150.00 when I made my reservations and was given my Itinerary, I feel that I should not have been subjected to the stress and strain that I was inforced to recieve, and am very disapointed that United Airlines failed to meet my expectations."
