Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I Asel Wood have made various attempts to purchase the home that I am currently living with by means of a short sell since the owner of whom I was paying rent to had passed away on October 3rd. of 2013. His wife had informed me not to pay anymore rent on that date because she was going to put the house in foreclosure. Sometime afterwards I had spoken to a Veterans loan officer with Wells Fargo at the headquarter office in Iowa who had asked for the owners name who is Mr. Rudolph Ferrell and the address of this house. After looking up the file he had told me that the house was scheduled to go into foreclosure 2 days later on a Friday and that was in October. She had also told me that they could sell the house to me on a short sell for $112,000.00. I had agreed since I thought that was a very reasonable price.

Sometime after that the case had been forwarded to a loan representative in Richmond, Virginia with Wells Fargo named Ella Kay Elledge. I had told her of the price I had been quoted for this house of where I have resided since 1995 and had paid Mr. Ferrell rent and other expenses along with up keep of the property. She then had told me that the loan officer in Iowa didn't know what he was talking about when he had quoted me a price. At first she seemed professional and had then become very rude. She would never tell me a price on the house even when I was trying to purchase it as a disabled veteran. She had become angry asking me why I hadn't paid rent. I had been told by 2 attorneys with legal aide and by Mr. Ferrell's wife that I didn't have to since I didn't have a contract and I would probably be evicted if I didn't purchase the house. I had asked Ms. Elledge when she was going to request my VA pre-qualification and each time she said she would take care of that later. She had asked at first for 2 copies of rent that I had paid to Mr. Ferrell from last year and then copies of each months rent from all of last year. Then she asked for an explanation of the variations in check amounts. I had tried to explain that the amounts above $800.00 was for Cable TV, electricity, etc.. and sometimes Mr. Ferrell would tell me that he had taken care of the water bill or trash bill. Mr Ferrell had told me to knock off several hundred for expenses that I had paid for out of my pocket for up keep of this property during the summer for 1 month. I was still paying payments on my bills for grass seed, and other needs for the yard when Mr. Ferrell had passed away.

I had called the gentleman at Wells Fargo in Iowa of whom I thought I had spoken to in the beginning about trying to purchase tis house. He denied telling me anything. Ms. Elledge has never returned my calls and I had let her know how I felt about her handling of this affair. She and Wells Fargo in general have caused me tremendous stress and grief as I have tried to be upfront and honest regarding my attempt to purchase this house. The last I had heard from Ms. Elledge she had told me that the house was no longer in foreclosure and hat was about 2 weeks ago or 3. When I asked her if it was back in the hands of Mr. Ferrell's wife, she said that she couldn't tell me that.

I suffer from anxiety, PTSD, heart problems, high blood pressure, along with other health issues. I would have never imagined that I nor any other veteran would have been treated as a second class citizen as I have been. This would never have been the policy of Wells Fargo Bank if I had been a minority veteran. I have been discriminated against due to my race as a white male and my gender, not to mention a disabled veteran. Thank you

Respectfully yours,

Asel Wood"

  • I have been subjected to unimaginable stress due to Wells Fargo Bank and Headquarter office in Des Moines, Iowa lying and misleading me into believing that I was able to purchase the house where I now reside using my VA Home loan. The Short sale price quoted to me was $ 112,000 and now the house is up for auction as a foreclosed property at the price of $98,000. The auction date is on June 17, 2014 and I have no place to go as of now. They have mislead me since 1 year ago. MY civil rights and rights as a senior disabled veteran have been grossly violated as I have suffered many undue physical and mental anguish as a result of their policies and actions. The Local Wells Fargo Bank in Chester, Virginia had recently made an untrue statement that they were aware that I wanted to purchase the house for market value of which was not true yet knowing that the house was up for auction. What a way to treat disabled vets!

  • May 05, 2014, Claiming party added:
  • Wells Fargo Bank representative at the headquarter office in Des Moines Iowa was supposed to have investigated the unfair treatment and being mislead by their staff last week on May 2nd. and call me back on May 5th but failed to do so. She had pretended to be concerned about my long ordeal and being mislead trying to purchase the house where I have resided since 1995. She has failed to call me and I have come to the conclusion tat personnel at the Wells Fargo Bank know they can get away with violating disabled veterans rights to equal and fair housing. Anyone or someone from a concerned veterans organization or legal team who may be concerned about this issue, I ask that you call the headquarter office at 800-853-8516 at ext. 45312 or email me at Pipestem1952@verizon. Thank you.

  • I had been given the name of Sharon James to file a discrimination claim against the Wells Fargo Bank at her office in Philadelphia, PA.. This was approximately April 30th. When a lady had answered the phone, I had asked if this was Sharon James. Suddenly and in a very hostile manner she said, " I am sick and tired of everyone mispronouncing my name. I has then asked exactly how is your name pronounced. She had then and rudely said Sha----rone!" I was shocked! She then proceeded to ask what I wanted and I had tried to explain that I had been discriminated against by Wells Fargo Bank with trying to purchase a house. To think that tis very rude individual is the person handling my claim with HUD is a disgrace and a big joke. She, Sha----rone is supposed to investigate and contact me on May 19th as to the results of her so-called investigation. From my experience with her, I already know that she doesn't fairly represent me. Another disabled vet being kicked in the face by a federal employee. What's new?

  • May 06, 2014, Claiming party added:
  • Veterans and the general public should be aware of how Wells Fargo Bank can get away with treating potential clients and disabled senior vets as second class citizens.

  • May 25, 2014, Claiming party added:
  • A representative with the Wells Fargo Bank Headquarters has asked me to send for my VA Home Buyer Eligibility Certificate but she has told me she couldn't promise me anything. I take this comment as saying I have no rights regarding my complaints against Wells Fargo Bank and veterans rights are meaningless. There have been no indications as to I do have rights and that actions by various staff at Wells Fargo are being ignored.

  • May 25, 2014, Claiming party added:
  • I have been faced with the growing possibility of being evicted on June 17 when this house where I have resided and help maintain since 1995 is to be auctioned.
I certainly had been denied my veteran home buyer rights and the quote of $112,000 is accurate that had been made by a Wells Fargo Bank VA Home Loan agent in Des Moines, Iowa. I did not make this individuals name up nor did I make up his price as he had told me before he was to stop the foreclosure process 2 days before it was to go into legal proceeding last October. I had found this person on the web in the first place. In addition, Ms. Ella Kay Elledge with this bank in Richmond, Virginia was supposed to have been handling this case after it had been passed down from Iowa but she would never quote another price to me after telling me that the other agent was stupid and had no right to quote any price to me. She had kept me hanging on making me believe that I was being given a chance to purchase until attorney letters starting coming in regarding foreclosure. Then just before the last attorney letter had arrived stating that this house was being auctioned originally on April 15, 2014, Ms. Elledge had stopped contacting me. She would not send for my VA Home Loan certificate and said she would do that later knowing that the house was up for auction and that my right to purchase had been violated. She had added to my very high degree of emotional and physical suffering. I cannot start a day without serious depression as I awaken to the agony of being evicted and how personnel at this bank has treated me and violated my rights. There have been days that have been so bad that I had felt as though I would fall apart emotional and physically due o overwhelming stress. This bank is a powerful bank, but is in need of being exposed to the public for their misconduct and violation of veterans rights. There have been times that I was so overwhelmed tat I had considered suicide because there were so many days that I could not cope with the depression and my health due to this bank. I had to call VA nurse hotlines for someone to talk to and had called various relatives because I was under so much stress and my entire body was in turmoil . Often I didn't know which direction to turn in and was concerned that relatives had grown tired of me calling. I had also called prayer sources and can prove the calls because I could not cope with how I was feeling and had no adequate home replacement in order. My big concern was to have to live in my car with my dog that is 12 and has seizures. I feel as though I have committed some awful crime due to how I have been jerked around .

  • The issue mentioned is involves a house that I have lived in since 1995. I am a disabled veterans with various health issues. A veterans home lending officer at the Wells Fargo Bank in Des Moines, Iowa Headquarters had given me a short sale quote in October of last year since the owner of this house had died. He then denied that. I had been notified that the house was up for auction on June 17th ,2014 but had been cancelled. The starting bid was $97,000 and now it down to around $94,800. I had been quoted a short sale of $112,000 last October. The bank is aware that I have good credit and a representative from Wells Fargo had written to me approximately 5 weeks ago stating that they were diligently working to keep me in this house. She refuses to call me now and the house is up for auction on June 24th. This entire ordeal and run-a-round has certainly taken it's toll on my health and has caused me much stress and depression. My blood pressure is often high while my medication seldom helps so I have to resort to nitroglycerin to bring it down. I am very nervous and depressed over this long term situation and being lied to and jerked around by the Wells Fargo Bank and incompetent personnel. I ask that anyone who may read this would pass it on to others so that the Wells Fargo Bank be exposed to the public. I will be evicted soon and I know apartment living will be even worse with my nerve and other health problems. Thanks for misleading me Wells Fargo and treating another disabled veteran as a second class citizen.

  • Jul 07, 2014, Claiming party added:
  • Why did Ms. Diane Johnson at Wells Fargo tell me that they were working diligently to try to keep me in this house in Chester, Virginia? For the 2nd. time it is up for auction on July, 24, 2014 at a starting bid of just over $94,000. The fact is that I had been offered a sale price and I am well qualified for a VA Home loan. The color of my skin, white has also played a role in violation of my rights.

What Claimant Wants Hide
Message from Claimant: This house needs to be removed from the foreclosure auction on June 17th. due to legal matters involving mental and physical anguish that Wells Fargo Bank has forced upon me. IN addition, I feel that this house should be sold to me for no more than $100,000. I feel that this is a fair and just settlement due to continuing circumstances. I have proof that I had to seek emotional help from family members due to mental and physical anguish I have suffered for over a year trying to cope with policies of Wells Fargo Bank.
