Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"A home inspection was done by ProTec in the middle of July 2014 for a client that was purchasing our home. The inspection report contained questionable items that ended up costing us over $360.00 to have several professionals come out and perform cursory work that was not needed. The fact that ProTech listed these items we as the homeowners had to put out monies to satisfy the buyer. The first item was that a 22-year-old wooden fence had termite infestation. This fence was rotten on the bottom where it touched the ground and after 22 years what would anyone expect. IF there was termite infestation as suggested by ProTec the fence would have been dust instead of still standing. Unfortunately I had to have a Pest Control Co. (who also took advantage of the situation), spray two small areas that they said had termites, not the whole fence that ProTech said was termite damaged. I had Terminx come out and they said they do not spray around wooden fences. The workers who actually did the spraying said there were no signs of termites whatsoever but I cannot very well go back to the company and tell them that their workers said there were no termites and possibly get them fired for disagreeing with their bosses. The next item was the electrical panel that ProTec said had rusted breakers in the panel and that we should replace all or most of the breakers if necessary. The electrician who did the inspection said when he took the cover off "this looks like a new panel inside." So to satisfy this bogus claim I said to the electrician go ahead and replace a breaker to satisfy the buyer that something was done. There were multiple items on his inspection that were so beyond picayune that I would be ashamed to put these items on an inspection and then sign it as being pertinent. It is beyond comprehension that Home Inspectors have this much power over the sale of homes with questionable methods and less than honest practices, which are covered by words such as "appears," "could be" and "possibly." We ended up taking less money for our home and we attribute some of this to the inspection company."
