This went on for about three more weeks and numerous trip to the shop.I talked to Kyle the installed and he informed me that he had never installed one of these before. They were basically learning on my car and on my dime. This is why the install job is so much.I finally had enough and was going to pick up my car because Steve was trying to steal as much money as he could from me.We finally sat down and agreed on a price with everything done for 11,993.37. I then had them sign a paper with that amount with everything installed and the car tuned and programs for tuning installed in my computer.Steve then called the next week and said there dyno picked up a misfire on my car and it would have to be addressed before they could go any further. I said I would come pick up the car and get the misfire addressed. They insisted that I pay the bill in full before I left. I told them I was concerned about paying the whole bill in full because the job was not done. They assured me that as soon as the misfire was addressed and fixed I could get the car right back to them so they could finish it.I said ok and took the car to Mcquinns Auto the people that built the engine.Dennis Mcquinn went over the whole car and the only thing was wrong is Scram speed shop had the wrong plug gap on the plugs.I then called Steve at Scram speed Shop and told him the car was fixed and ready for them to finish. He then told me it would be over two more weeks and that I was not there only customer and was very rude.I said that is not what we agreed . I called the next day but they would not return my calls . I was afraid that once I paid in full that Steve would not finish the job and I was correct.I have no idea what the cost to finish this car and put some programs in my computer is.I also have a witness that was with me when all of these promises and things that were said. You can not rip people off and get away with it and not get sued.If this does not get resolved my next step is get my lawyer involved and it will cost you a lot more money.I told Steve to treat me fair in the beginning and I would him but he would rather steal from you then do the work.If they continue to do business like this in the future they will not be open long.

I also forgot to say, as far as starting the car and driving it onto the trailer, it can be done. However, the engine runs so rough and has so little power that it is very difficult. My car is far from being tuned, and runs poorly at best ! When I start it, the engine surges and dies. This shop should be called Scam Speed Shop instead of Scram Speed Shop. For a vehicle that “runs better than it has in years”, which Steve falsely claims I said to him, this is not consistent. I never said the car runs better than it has in years, and it doesn’t. I will never deal with Scram Shop again as they are money DESPERATE and will LIE about any and everything to inflate their charges, which they ALWAYS DEMAND up front before any parts are purchased or any work begins.

    · John Bradley says on Jan 25 2018, 10:00

Let’s start off by saying Steve does absolutely nothing for free, and his claims that he did multiple things on my car for free are an OUTRIGHT LIE. He charges $ 75 per hour for anything and everything. I took my car there after I spoke with Steve on the phone back in early October of 2017. I told him I wanted to install fuel injection on my car and was looking for someone to do it. He said they could do it and the cost would be somewhere around $ 7,000 TOTAL for parts, labor, tuning on the Dyno and putting 5 engine tuning programs on my Laptop computer. He stated the cost for the parts would be $ 5,000 and they would have to be paid for in advance of any parts being ordered or before any work would commence. I, thinking they were honest, sent him a check on 10/4/17 for $ 5,000. I asked Steve how long the build would take, and he said one week to install the fuel injection parts and one week to tune the engine on the dyno. Steve finally called me late in October and said they had received all the parts and work could begin. I did not hear from Steve for two more weeks, then finally he contacted me. He then proceeded to tell me that he underbid the job and would need more money, over and above his $ 7,000 original estimate. On November 15th we went to his shop to discuss what was going on and why he needed more money. He told us he had 26 hours of labor in the car at that point and there was a miscellaneous charge for $ 50 (non-taxable). I paid Steve $ 2,000 in cash on that date.

On November 17th we were at Scram’s shop again and Steve told us he had underbid this job at $ 7,000 and that he needed an additional $3,000 to complete everything he had originally agreed to do at $ 7000. This represents an UNFORGIVABLE 42.857 % cost increase over their original estimate !. However, I wanted to have my car finished and I paid them $ 3,000, in cash. on that date. At the same time, both Steve, Kyle (Kyle is a Scram Speed Shop partner and mechanic) agreed that the car needed a Methane Injection system, with the parts being $ 550 for the complete system. I told them there could be no more charges for parts, labor or tuning on my car since they had missed their original estimate by more than 42 % I told them I would pay the additional cost for the Meth System. Kyle and Steve both agreed to complete ALL WORK installing the Meth Injection, tuning on the Dyno and loading the tune-up programs on my Laptop computer. Steve and Kyle agreed and a contract was drawn up and signed by myself and Kyle (representing Scram Speed Shop) that everything was to be completed at a final bill total of $ 10, 993.37.

On November 27th we were told that they could not continue with tuning the engine because it had developed a misfire and was not running properly. Steve told us that they had attempted to correct the problem by installing new spark plugs. We, once again, went to their shop and picked up the car and took it back To Springfield, IL. to my engine builder, Mcquinn’s Auto Service. We told Steve we would have the vehicle back to him in 2 days with the engine misfire problem resolved. Kyle DEMANDED that we pay IN ADVANCE once again, for the Meth Injection system and other charges totaling $ 993.37 before we took the car out of their shop. This brought the total charges paid to the maximum, out the door, contract amount of $ 10,993.37. I paid Kyle by credit card and told him I didn’t feel right about having to pay the full contract amount before the work was completed, but he INSISTED. We told Kyle we would have the car back in his shop in 2 days to have all outstanding work completed.

Dennis Mcquinn found the problem to be the gap being incorrect on new spark plugs installed by Kyle at Scram’s shop. After correcting this problem, caused by Kyle, the engine ran well and was ready for the completion of the Meth Injection system and Dyno testing/tuning. Then when I tried to get my car back to Scram’s shop to have the work I had already been forced to pay for in full, IN ADVANCE, Steve turned into a complete jerk, telling lies about how the work was all finished and how they had done many hours of labor free of charge on my car. He simply told lie after lie, and we relied on Kyles honesty and integrity to keep Steve in line with the commitment’s they had agreed to. Now that They had collected all the INFLATED COSTS for this job Kyle just bowed out of the picture and let lying, phony, crooked Steve handle the entire matter. Steve is an expert at lying and denying any responsibility to complete this job as per the signed contract. At the same time Steve attempts to attack me personally, alleging all types of character flaws and lying. He is the LIAR and a THIEF on top of that.

This entire mess went on for more than 10 weeks and numerous trip to their shop.I talked to Kyle the installer and partner and he informed me that he had never installed one of these before. They were basically learning on my car and on my money. This is why the install job and inflated parts costs were so much. During this entire mess I finally had enough and was going to pick up my car because Steve was trying to steal as much money as he could from me. We finally sat down and agreed on a price with everything done for 10,993.37. I then had them sign a paper with that amount with everything installed and the car tuned and programs for tuning installed in my computer. They insisted that I pay the bill in full before I left. I told them I was concerned about paying the whole bill in full because the job was not done. They assured me that as soon as the misfire was addressed and fixed I could get the car right back to them, so they could finish it. I agreed and took the car to Mcquinns Auto the people that built the engine. Dennis Mcquinn went over the whole car and the only thing was wrong is Scram speed shop had the wrong gap on the spark plugs. I then called Steve at Scram Speed Shop and told him the car was fixed and ready for them to finish. He then told me it would be over two more weeks and that I was not there only customer and was very rude. I said that is not what we agreed . I called the next day, but they would not return my calls . I was afraid that once I paid in full Steve would not finish the job and I was correct. I have no idea what the cost will be to finish my car and put the tune-up programs in my computer. I also have a witness that was with me when all these promises were discussed and agreed to. You cannot rip people off and get away with it and not get sued. If this does not get resolved my next step is get my lawyer involved and it will cost you dearly. I told Steve to treat me fair in the beginning and I would him, but he would rather steal and lie from you than to do the work. If they continue to do business like this in the future they will not be open long.

  • Feb 01, 2018, Scram Speed Shop (responding party) added:
  • This will be my final response to this claim. I will not engage in a tit for tat about the many false claims that Mr Bradley makes in his statements.

I have the contract that Mr Bradley refers to repeatedly in his statement with original signatures. It is signed by us and him. It simply states that there is a remaining balance for this build, which is to pay for the methanol system. It states that we will not charge any further labor charges, and that any further charges beyond those detailed will be for parts only.

When Mr Bradley picked up his car after we installed the methanol system, we did require him to pay for these parts as would normally be expected at any shop.

I also have the statement he gave the credit card company when he attempted to charge back the methanol system after receiving and paying for it. The credit card company provides the claimant's statement as standard procedure as part of a chargeback claim. The claims in the statement he provided to them contradict the claims he makes on peopleclaim, which I have also saved. The credit card company denied his chargeback and returned the money to us, as I said.

I have attached a PDF file which lists the contents of the methanol injection system we installed, complete with links to the manufacturer's webpages, and the current retail pricing for these components. The current retail cost of the methanol system is over $1000.00 (plus install consumables). It was not a $500 system as Mr Bradley states, and he signed this contract with the price of the methanol system plainly listed on it. These parts are not available anywhere for the price Mr Bradley claims in his peopleclaim statements, to us or anyone else. Installation of this kit took approximately 6 hours, which would normally be a $450 charge. Mr Bradley received the labor portion of this installation for free, as agreed.

Again, Mr Bradley's bill is paid in full. He has paid for nothing he didn't receive, and has received more than he paid for. His claim against us is utterly without basis or merit.

  • Feb 02, 2018, Claiming party added:
  • I have a witness that was with me when we ordered the methanol kit. We were not paying retail cost just actual cost at $550 dollars. I also do not like how you try to justify your actions when you ripped me off. You made my review on your website go away and had friends write in to raise your stars back up to 4.4. You are a very dishonest person and you try to steal as much money as you can. I have also talked to some other former customers of yours and they were ripped off as well and you even wrecked one of their cars test driving it. You can not keep cheating people and get away with it. We will see how long you stay in business without getting sued. People stay away from this guy and company they are crooks!

The claimant's settlement terms were rejected with the following explanation:
  • I disagree with the explanation / grounds provided

"Mr Bradley hired us to convert his turbo Buick from a carbureted induction system to fuel injection using a custom Holley EFI system. When he received his estimate, he was told multiple times that this is custom work, every job is unique, and it is impossible to give a firm estimate, because we cannot know everything that needs to be done until we’re doing it. He was further told that converting a car from carburetor to EFI was more involved than simply upgrading an existing EFI system. While the car was here, he also added extensive work and parts to the job that were not included in the original estimate. His car also needed repair to complete the work. He was informed of all work before it was performed and always said "Make it nice" and "I want it done right." ALL parts were delivered at a discount and professionally installed on his car.

After agreeing to the work, he came in to dispute the charges during the job. We provided a complete list of all work performed, and all parts used in the build. He was not mollified. After he threatened to smear us online and in the local community, we reduced our labor charges and agreed to install the remaining parts without labor charges. He agreed to this and paid what he owed up to that day. We performed the remaining installation labor for free, only charging for parts. This included installing a $990 methanol injection kit-also not in the original estimate. We ran the car on our chassis dyno for free, a service we normally charge $100/hr. for. The EFI and its subsystems were tested and functioning perfectly, but the car had a light misfire under load due to a problem with the engine. We informed him of this and he told us he wanted to take the car to his engine builder to have the misfire corrected.

He paid for the remaining parts and took his car. His car was running and driving when he left here and his bill was paid in full. There was no advance payment of any kind. All the parts he paid for were installed and on the car. He later called to tell us that the engine builder had fixed the misfire and the car ran better than it had in years. I had previously offered him the opportunity to have the car in for additional tuning of the EFI software on our chassis dyno for free. We normally charge $100/hr for this service and a session would last 5-7 hours. I told him he would have to wait five business days because the schedule was full and we were attending the PRI trade show the following week. This is not a long wait time for a dyno session, especially a free one. He became irate and verbally abusive. He called me obscene names. I hung up on him, and have not initiated any contact with him since. In light of his repeated abusive behavior, I have chosen to rescind this free opportunity, and will no longer do business with him.

Since then, he filed a chargeback against us on his credit card under false pretenses, similar to these allegations. After completing their investigation, his credit card company sided with us and returned the money to us. Mr. Bradley was not ‘ripped off’. He received discounted prices on all parts and many hours of skilled labor and high-quality workmanship, which he complimented on several occasions. We have made every effort to accommodate him. All work that he paid for has been completed, and we have done many hours of additional work that he was not billed for. All the parts were installed on the car and were tested and functioning perfectly when he left here. The build is complete. The conversion from carburetor to fuel injection is complete. His claims are entirely baseless. There is absolutely no justification for his claim for $4000+ dollars.

    "

This claim will remain posted until resolved.

"I believe that Scram Speed Shop should sue Mr. Bradley for slander and defamation of character. Mr. Bradley's comments have a lot of incorrect grammar and incomplete thoughts or run on sentences. (Like maybe a child wrote it, or he had someone else write on his behalf) Scram Speed...you should sue this guy for 2 or 3 times the amount of the total Bill. It is FRAUD to intentionally LIE, Slander and Smear a good company's reputation, just to "get money in your pocket". Years ago, near Jefferson City, MO I was going by with my professional pickup, tools and equipment and stopped in the yard of a man doing a TREE job. He told me his chainsaws "are breaking down" and could I please help him finish the job. I agreed to $300.00. The man took off for a while, and I finished the entire job, hauling the wood and branches to the mulch site. I paid a friend (helper) $120.00 in cash for helping. The friend didn't have any tools or equipment to contribute. This man who I believe is the same RACE as Mr Bradley, never to this day, Feb 19, 2018 (that happened in 1996 or so) paid a penny for my work. After calling him for days to find out when he would pay, he ignored my calls. I went to the homeowner and asked him (he is the same race as myself) if he paid the other man. He said "Yes, I already paid him with a check for the entire job" I had no legal complaint against the homeowner, nor was I even slightly upset at him--since I had merely subcontracted the job from the liar who wanted me to "finish the job for free". Some 2 weeks later I tracked down this man who had scammed me, coming out of a house where his mother stayed. When confronted about "Why you never paid me even the $300 (which was a small amount of the $1,200 joy he had gotten paid for!) his explanation was "I'm sorry, but I spent the money already. I had to use it to bail my brother out of jail with." These people who don't like how they were brought to America need to realize that committing crimes against us, robbing us, shooting us, stealing from us, raping women of our race---does nothing to change what happened 200 years ago."

"Based on Reading everything...I believe Scram Speed Shop has treated Mr Bradley very fairly and probably better than he deserves. It would not surprise me if I/we the general public knew the race of the individuals involved ( I have my hunch exactly what race they are) There is one particular race in America that feels they have EXTRA RIGHTS that average Americans don't have. They feel that it is their duty to make people work for them FOR FREE, and are very happy with the work, but just Fabricate a bunch of false accusations later to "get their money back" Why is this allowed in America?"

"These are absolutely outrageous comments regarding race. It would appear that they may have been made by someone connected to Scram Speed in some way, since no member of the public would be aware of the claimant's race and it would not cross most people's mind to comment on that. Scram Speed itself responded perfectly rationally, so it is a great pity that someone would spoil that by making such disgusting comments. I would hope that the author would remove the comments or that this site will do so. Shame on you."
