Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I bought a relatively expensive ($600) carpet shampooer that was on sale for $400. The reason I bought from Bob was because he also services the machines he sells. Initially it worked well, but over time the shampooer stopped spraying the water and cleaning solution on the floor. I took it in for repair in May of 2014. Bob had it over four months. I repeatedly called him to see if the machine had been repaired. When I finally got it back he said he had completely cleaned the machine and it would work great again. I paid $103 for the cleaning. I took it home and to my disappointment it was NO better than when I took it in! (The only thing was got cleaned was my wallet.) I returned it to Bob. He said that he needed to put a new pump in it. He charged me $50 for the for the pump, but the labor was complimentary. It was about a year from the initial repair before the shampooer was ready for pick up. Again I took it home and it still did not release the water and cleaning solution! By that time I was pretty disheartened and irritated. I called him to report there had been no improvement. He asked me to bring it in again. I have called and gone in repeatedly over the year and it is never ready, or the parts haven't come in yet, or he is unavailable. I was in a few weeks ago and he said he was working on it. I'm fed up with his empty promises, failure to repair and general disrespect for me as a customer! I clean houses for a living and have had to rent a shampooer 8 times since I took my machine in for repair. That number does not include all of the times I was unable to shampoo my own or my mother's carpets. He had failed to do the work he promised at the time of sale as well as in the repairs. His failure to comply has also cost me money in machine rental, transportation costs and time constraints in getting and returning the rented machines. I have also lost out on work opportunities because I didn't have ready access to my shampooer. I still don't have it 1 year and 10 months after taking it to Bob for repair."

Message from Bob's Sew & Vac: The carpet cleaner is repaired with new parts at no charge. This machine was used commercially and thus voided any manufacturer warranty. The Royal company was sold and this model discontinued and most parts for it are obsolete and very difficult to source. However I was able to find parts after an extended search.
Shirley's claim is totally out of the question. No manufacturer or equipment supplier will pay for loss of work due to equipment failure and a refund of the product after it was used for quite some time especially if the product was intended for home use and then used commercially. I will offer her the machine repaired at no charge for parts and labor.
