Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"Newcomer to the US in 2012, on 6/12 we subscribed to a 2 years triple play (TV,Internet, phone) contract with Verizon for USD 89.99/month, the DVR service valued at 19.99/month being free.
Today, Verizon advertises such service for customers at 79.99, and adds USD 300 on a Visa prepaid card, if one commits for two years. If you can read the fine prints of its ad, you would discover that such offer is for new customers.
The DVR being not mentioned in such ad, let us assume that for such service 19.99 ought to be added. All in thus, for a 2 years contract, new customers would have paid 87.50 per month
I was proposed first, as existing customer to renew at 109.99, plus DVR at 19.99, I imagine, ie: 42 USD more per month. Having mentioned the discriminatory nature of Verizon's approach on such matter, threatened to leave, I was eventually forwarded to the "retention department".
We settled at 89.99 plus free DVR for another two years commitment, ie : 2.50 more per month than for new customers
First, I would like to pay 87.50, and if not to have the freedom to leave Verizon at every moment during those two years
Second, and this is much more important, I want Verizon to change its business practice in such a case. Existing customers ought to be priced as new ones. This would also prevent Verizon to overcharge all the customers that do not try to get a better price, prevent a retention service to exist.
Last but not least, being European, and getting the same service in France, we pay over there EUR 33 per month, all in, ie :including VAT, but without the DVR service...This amounts roughly to half of what we pay here.....There seems to be a competition and quality of regulations' issues here..."
