"On 7/27/2012, My wife and I purchase a trial Discovery Vacation from Wyndham at Harrahs' Las Vegas. We were sold me 308,000 points which the salesperson repeatedly said this is 3 to 4 weeks worth of resort stay. The sales person asked us where we would like to go and we mentioned Hawaii, Orlando, Mexico, Europe. We put down $349 and plan to pay the $2246 on the next payment (Total $2595).

The Sales person also included a PERKS program which cost $50 per year in the sale. He claims because of the millions of members they have, they are able to get deep discounts for travel. He bragged about how he was able to get his buddies airfare to Hawaii for half price. We found out by contacting the Perks representative, whatever fare we can find on the internet is what they can get us - plus a $25 booking fee. This was a blatant lie.


We also found out the 308,000 points is really equal to 1 week in Hawaii OR 1 week in Orlando. Again, this was a lie and deal breaker so we immediately tried to cancel but the representative would not. She explains everything we heard in the sales pitch is just a verbal and not binding.

  • Unfortunately, the contract is binding, and usually the information that they don’t disclose to you is listed in the fine print. The verbal representation is extremely misleading, but unfortunately the contract, with whatever the fine print says about the points’ usage and such is binding. How many days has it been since you signed the original contract? Does it state anything about contract rescission and a timeframe for that? If you do not get a satisfactory solution offered by a customer call center, I would contact the corporate headquarters. Put everything in writing, and follow up with phone calls. State that you were misled from the presentation, and that you would like a refund and a cancellation. Perhaps with some persistence, you can find someone in the company that can help you.
