Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I received an email about a random $5 charge Uber made to my credit card because the UBER DRIVER cancelled my UBER POOL request.
The email shows this:
1.41 PM: Time you accepted the request
1.47 PM: Time driver cancelled your request
Possibly the driver cancelled my request and left me stranded because he'd been stabbed by an Uber Pool passenger, per recent news reports, in which case I'd feel terrible. However, I'd still be unable to see why the heck Uber saw fit to charge ME $5 for the inconvenience to ME.
I tried to challenge the charge but only got "If you think this was a mistake, please visit help.uber.com or tap Help..."
When I clicked through there was a maze of information and choices. The most likely was "My account has an unrecognized charge" - for which most of the options apparently relate to buddies using your app, presumably when they're, um, drunk and haranguing a driver.
Still, I have to enter my full credit card number which I don't have - because I use Apple Pay and the UBER app and don't often carry my cards unless I know I'll need them. UBER DOES have my card number, because UBER charged me. So why would I have to enter it again in the middle of a business trip?
The system seems designed to make it impossible to challenge charges.
I don't like to dispute charges on my credit card; I'd prefer to give the company a chance to make things right - but Uber seems not to want to make that too easy. Possibly most people don't read their emails or challenge crazy charges. I do.
I can't contact you. There's no phone number, no email address, not even a contact form.
Please fix this.
