Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"Hello,
I had a voluntary stress test procedure and had no idea nor was ever told of the price until I received a bill of $9,593 ; after insurance my bill was $1,956.31
If I was informed of this cost, I would have definitely refused this due to the fact that I am healthy and this was voluntary.
I am retired living completely on my monthly Social Security check .
Please help me resolve this enormous charge
Thank you

""A Stress Test in Sacramento costs $1,128 on average when you take the median of the 18 medical providers who perform Stress Test procedures in Sacramento, CA. The least expensive Stress Test in Sacramento is $280 for a Pulmonary Tests (Stress Test) while the most expensive Stress Test list price is $1,350 for a Cardiovascular Stress Test."

In this day and age, providers should ALWAYS disclose the cost of any voluntary medical test. If the doctor doesn't know--because of varying insurance plan coverage--they should ensure that their patients are aware that they need to check with the billing office. They should also provide the billing codes so that patients can shop around for the best price.

It sounds as if Sutter Health may not only have very inflated prices but may also need to review their ethics with respect to blindsiding patients. Few of us are savvy enough to question this stuff."

"Have you looked up your states laws regarding disclosure and hidden fees, over 1000 seems like a gouge . It would seem that they are generally reliant on the insurance to cover more that whatever your particular insurance covered, also bringing this practice into the light of day.... If you volunteer ,it is implied that you do not pay, nor should your insurance be billed... It also seem a bad business practice to gouge insurance companies for procedures that required volunteers... Volunteer requests at medical facilities Imply that any cost would be the duty of said volunteer requester..... When one volunteers to walk a lady across the street ,they can not in good taste or conscience charge the lady for this service... As with a choking patron ,even if the chef himself squeezed the offending macaroni from the patrons lung,he can not then add this medical procedure to the final bill, but having said that and considering the venue ,he can expect a tip ,but that too is voluntary and not a valid expectation..... If it is unspoken and unseen ,and you go in uninformed ,there should be no announcement or request for pay upon completion. How can they enforce payment?what if you volunteered a chunk of your liver or bone marrow to save a life ? Blood or plasma? All voluntary and commendable... The idea is to save the volunteer requester from having to pay or compensate subjects for their contribution .... When flipped it's a customer and not a volunteer.... The laws may have clear precedent ,look them up."

Sutter Health should cut its inflated price of nearly $10,000 for a stress test. Sutter Health should halve patient's $2,000 co-pay and allow them to pay installments. It should also review its disclosure policy about expensive testing. Shocking that hospitals do this! More...
