Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"September 24 2013, I went to the Sleep Inn to purchase a "SURPRISED" paid night for our daughter's new inlaws, I talked to Jessica, and said that our future son inlaw said it was fine to do this, as she confirmed it as well, so I made the reservations for one room 2 nights, I did not plan to let them know until the night of the wedding with a Thank you card ( some people are not good with accepting gifts ) I left the Sleep Inn, knowing/thinking things were taken care of for the October 3 and check out on October 5th, the wedding date was on Friday, October 4th, when I got a phone call to call the Sleep in, I talked to the Manager/Owner , as he was not very professional, and told me, one that I needed to listen to him, and I should have let the party know about the gift, I in turn told him that I had talked to the other manager, and had gotten it all okayed he said they were charging me for a room since I didn't show up, I told him the room was not for me, I only live 7 miles away and our house was the venue, I did not need a room and at that time he said he was going to charge me, I was doing my daughters hair for the wedding at the time, and told him, I had a wedding in 3 hours I don't need this right now and I would get with him AFTER the wedding. Which fast forward to Ocober 22, I stopped into the Sleep in with all of the receipts, he not only charged me the 188.46 he also charged the inlaws the same price, the same manager was there and she remembered most of our conversation, and she said that she would talk to the owner/manager, and said she would be in on Thursday if she did not call me back, I told her in NO WAY did I want to talk to him, his customer service was horrible, and I only would go through her. I called them on Thursday, and he answered the phone, I asked for Jessica, and he said she would not be there till Saturday, I just got off the phone with her, she said he cannot do anything about it, more like WONT do anything about it, He full well knew when I talked to him on the wedding day as well that it was a present and still billed them for Friday night as well. There was a communication problem with his staff and he was trying to blame it on me, Jessica had even put an attachment with the invoice to let them know it was a gift. HE STOLE 188.46 from us, double dipped, I said quite a lot to her, she got the ear full, however she was the one I was working with, I asked her if this is how he ran his business, and she said no, it could have all been resolved by just making a check out to us, he has our money, I feel as I told Jessica, that we have been RAPED!!! This is very unethical on how he chooses to run his business. I will NEVER advise any of our friends or family to stay there, so disappointed I gave him almost a month for him to make it right as he knew October 5th there check out date, he DOUBLE DIPPED, HE chose not to make it right!"

  • We would like to apolo9gize to her for the way that she feels. A room was reserved in her name and we believe that she should pay for the room that was in her name. As for the surprise. She should have let the guest know that she had paid for the room an that would have made things a lot simpler and then all of the hassles would not have come about. We are sorry that all this has been drawn out. But as well as the guests paying for their own room. There was an additional room in her name that she was charged for and that is why we do not believe we should refund her money.

  • Mike and Jessica,

You both know what you have done is ethically wrong, and as I explained to some of my patrons, they have all said the same thing, that you are double dipping, How can you feel good about running a business like this. YOU have stole 188.46.I see you have NO explanation of this, and Mike when I talked to you on the phone on Friday the day of the wedding, YOU also knew at that time that it was a gift and I had no intentions on staying at the Sleep Inn,and you were insulting and yelling at me and told me to listen to you and be quiet, as I was explaining to you what was going on, that I needed to let them know and there was a lack of communication with them, Well Mike, when it is a surprise gift as I told Jessica, who okayed everything, I assumed my communication with Jessica was fine, until I was notified to call you. You sir, should have taken it to Jessica first as she knew what was going on and even told me that she had put an attachment with the order saying it was a gift, they checked out on Saturday the 5th the day AFTER I talked to you, and you still charged them for the Friday night too. From the moment the kids booked with you, there were some red flags. I should have realized, when Jessica made a mistake on the first try, when she booked it for 1 room one night, she changed it to the 1 room 2 nights, and then I had to sign a waiver stating that if they did damage I would have to pay for it in the room, I told Jessica at that time, well they are 60 I hope they don't do any damage, thought that was odd since it was a present. You disagree with the terms? Being unethical by stealing the money from us is part of your business nature, all you were concerned about is me paying for the room, and as I explained to you, It wasn't for me, I live a short distance the venue was at our house, why in the world would I book a room for myself as I tried to explain that to you, when you rudely interrupted, you sir are the one with the lack of communication skills, when I finally said, I will get back with you AFTER the wedding, I didn't have time for you that day, since I wasn't able to get the message across, I would go to the source, who was Jessica, who KNEW everything about it. I sure bet that if you had a person working for you that stole that kind of money or product, they wouldn't be employed by you, just the way you handle yourself on the phone when you called was a testament to that. I know this wont get taken care of, I have come to terms with that, since your lack of display with dealing with the public, when its not in your favor. However I will pass it on to my friends and family of your business practice with me and let them make a choice.

  • I want to clarify a comment I made on the first note sent over to Jessica and Mike at the Sleep Inn, I was very frustrated at the time, I really wanted to say a bad word, that is about liked being screwed and "Raped" came out instead. I don't want that to be an issue here so I apologize for the word that was used. I paid Jessica that day in full, so I did not have to go back in and get it taken care of, 100.00 was cash and the 88.46 as credit card, she knew it, I knew it, the only one that wasn't in on it was the owner/manager. I don't know him but some of the reviews I have been reading and hearing on this man, is unethical. I am not the first person he has been unethical too, and I wont be the last, Where are the people that protect us from business people like him? I had to sign papers if there were damages and sign over my visa numbers to them. I am feeling really uncomfortable even doing that or him having access to them. Please all of you that book with him, if there are any red flags in the beginning, find another reputable place to go, East Lansing is only an extra 5 minutes away. I just wish I would have. There were many things I questioned from the beginning, but that is where the people were staying and the kids had made their reservations, and I was just paying a nice gesture forward, and it stopped at the Sleep Inn when they charged them and myself!
