Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I brought my motorcycle in with an electrical failure and a transmissions rebuild. Eight months later I finally got my bike back. After being promised every week for three months that it would be done... I was given papers to sign and allowed to drive off the lot. One I got home... a spool nut on my rear end fell off in my driveway, the brake lights and turn signals were not even close to being in working order. Wires have cut ends and no power suply plugs were available, one of the two main nuts for my swing arm was only finger tight, and there was grease in areas that should have been spray cleaned prior to working on, and the ignition was changed out without asking if I wanted a matching lock set for the motorcycles trunk space. Their all around attitude was to keep me in the dark and not tell me anything specefic in any way."

  • Jeff.Tilghman brought his 1999 Yamaha R1 into our service dept on 5/24 requesting that we perform repairs that he and his friends were not capable of or were unwilling to perform themselves. Jeff stated the he had performed an engine rebuild on the unit but did not repair the known transmission problem, that the unit needed wiring repairs, carbs synched and other various repairs. The unit scheduled with a technician and an estimate was put together within two days. Jeff was notified of the repair costs involved in having us perform the needed repairs and was also advised that the costs of repairing this unit was over and above the current market value of the bike. Jeff insisted that he wanted the bike fixed but could not pay the required amount at that time. An offer was proposed to Jeff that we take the bike in as a long term job and he could pay money towards the repairs as he could. This offer is not normally made to customers due to our storage room constraints. It was agreed that Jeff would pay $500 every 2 weeks until the unit was finished and repairs were paid for. Jeff made his payments regularly most months but had several that were either longer in time between payments or were less in dollar amounts. Work preceded as monies allowed and Jeff added more repairs to the unit towards the end, such as new tires and frame sliders. more info ....

  • Dec 02, 2011, RideNow Powersports (responding party) added:
  • Due to the age of the unit aftermarket accys are not as readily available as are for newer bikes and frame sliders were located. The manufacture of the slider kit did not provide the correct hardware for mounting slider mounts to the frame as they are also the engine mounts. After a couple of weeks trying to located the correct mounting hardware, due to no help from the manufacture, it was determined that we should try and find another brand slider kit. One was found and shipped in immediatly and installed. Jeff was aware of the issues with the mounts and the time frame and difficulty on acquiring parts for a bike of his age. Once the tech was done performing the repairs the bike was cleaned and roadtested twice to ensure it ran and road correctly. The bike was picked up on 11/15.Jeff was contacted immediately after recieving this dispute and was questioned as to the issues he had with the repairs, he stated that his rear lights had missing electrical plugs, his swingarm pivot was loose and the unit did not run correctly. He stated he had taken the bike into another repair facility and it had cost him $170 for the needed repairs to be performed. Jeff was informed that we would rather he had contacted us with his complaints so that we would have been given an opportunity to make things right. At that time i offered to speak to my general manager ,which i stated was out of town, to acquire the funds to reinburse Mr.Tilghman his out of pocket expenses at the other repair shop. Upon the general managers return i called Mr.tilghman and left a voice message to call me back, i have yet to hear from him. Andrew.Broughton

  • I know Jeff very well and know him to be a very honest person. For this company to have had his bike for 8 months and the money they charged for work that was not completed is ridiculous. He has no turn signals because they didn't hook up the wires, which by the way is one of the things he was charged for. Ride Now Company needs to be held responsible for the shotty work they did and for letting a customer drive off their lot with the swing arm not fully srewed on!

  • That is so ridiculous! This place should be closed and have a HUG fine slapped on them. They are liars and con artists. They should NOT have charged this person for work done to their bike. They messed it up more and had no right to do anything without notifying this person. $500 that this person is asking for is LOW. They should get at least triple that.
