Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"In 2005 I bought the new model of Chevy Corvette from General Motors. This being my first new car car I drove it as if it was a "Sunday car" only around my home town of Boulder City, NV, a population of 15,000 people. Owning it for five years I had only put 900 plus miles on it when one afternoon I decided to clean out my garage and pulled the Corvette out onto the driveway. After cleaning the garage and it getting to be dusk I decided to put the cover back onto it and leave it outside for the night. The next day when I decided to pull it back into the garage I went outside and discovered that the car was on fire and smoldering with smoke coming from under the cover. Being a former firefighter with 29 years experience, who had just recently retired I quickly grabbed a hose and put it out and immediately called 911. Upon the arrival of police and fire they investigated to fire and determined it was "undetermined". I sent in the pictures and the report to a third party administrator for General Motors and a few wekks later recieved back from them a letter saying that without more evidence they were not interested in looking further into the car. At that point, not knowing what more to do, I went on the Internet and found a very well known Forensic Arson Vehicle Investigator who I called. He arrived in Boulder city NV from Texas on the 5th of May 2011 (the fire occurred in September of 2010). He put the car onto a lift, after towing it to a auto repair center in Boulder City. He took the rear wheel off the driver's side, where the fire had began, and the wheel schroud, took pictures, investigated and spent the next 6 months trying to determine the cause. I paid him $7,000 to do the investigation so that I would have new evidence for General Motors, since that is what General Motors asked and needed. After sending in the report my Arson Investigator completed I waited to hear back from General Motor's third party administrator. After not hearing back for nearly a month or more I placed a call to them only to be told that they were not interested in looking further into it unless I had further evidence. The Arson Investigator I hired determined it was a electrical malfunction in the Fuel Filler Door. I have the complete report available for anyone to see and it is very complete and concise. I have tried to hire an attorney to help and handle this case but without $50,000 no attorney is interested. I was told of this website and decided to write you a letter to see if the "little people" can get some help resolving an issue against a BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY."
