Yes the system does work, if the alarm is set off a recorded call comes from Co. A recording comes and ask me what my phone #is if I have a problem then they decide I don't need help. This is not what I agreed to I was told anytime the alarm went off that it would go to Sheriff's office and it did at first. Now it goes to an answering machine. No I am not satisfied . I am not going to pay for this. A representive from ADT called me Tues . Night on the 24th, he told me they return my service back to Sheriff , he also told me if I would continue the service they would lower the monthly charge to $26.95. But he did not do any of the things he said he would do. I have his name, if needed. I have sent ADT e mails and a letter, telling that I am cancelling since Dec. 28, they refused to respond, when I did finally receive a letter on the 28 of Jan. they said I would have to sent them a letter. I want this account closed now. I am not going to pay for a service that is not a service. It's an answering machine. Martha Jackson
The system does work. But the service is not good. When alarm goes off, it goes to an answering machine (not to the Sherriff's office as I was promised when purchased.) the machine answers spends precious time deciding if you have a need. I can contact 911 while they are going through their procedure. I am not going to pay for an answering machine . Some one called from their company and agreed this is not a service , he promised he would transfer back to sheriff's office, but he did not follow through. SERVICE NO GOOD.
"Customers system is communicating and ADT has record of signals being received. If the customer disarms the system within the allotted time then ADT does not call on the signal due to the proper cancel code being received. We've offered to have a technician to service the account due to the alleged issues which was declined by the customer. The customer is accountable for charges associated with early termination and can discuss this further with our billing department at 1-800-238-2727. "

I believe that many sheriff's offices charge (either the alarm company or the homeowner) for calls made in error. If you habitually set the alarm off by mistake, then someone could rack up quite a hefty bill. What's worse, you're diverting attention from actual crime.
It does seem reasonable to me that if the alarm goes off and no code is entered, then the Sheriff's office should call AND dispatch an officer, but I see no evidence that this isn't the case.
If you enter the code, then ADT and NOT the sheriff's office should call you to make sure everything is alright as it almost always would be.
However, I would personally not find it at all acceptable to get a machine recording (if that's what it is) cheerily telling me that the alarm has been cancelled. The homeowner could have been coerced into entering the code. It would be far more reasonable to have a panic code and/or a registered spoken alert word so that ADT would know if there was possible coercion by an intruder.
ADT's response doesn't address this issue at all - ADT simply states that the alarm is functioning correctly, which is not at all the homeowner's concern. I would completely agree with the claimant that it would be a waste of time to check it because there is no dispute over the functionality of the alarm.
I would certainly not be prepared to have ADT install an alarm in my own home under those terms. The monitoring cost should include a live person (ADT employee, not Sheriff's Office) to check in on calls where a code has been entered and determine whether there is any crime in progress. This has always been the case with any alarm system I've ever encountered--including ADT.
If the machine is a cost-saving measure on ADT's part, it's an extremely bad idea, in my opinion. I would agree with the claimant that it isn't what one would expect and apparently it isn't what he or she was told.
In this case I would agree that ADT has essentially broken the contract and also reasonable expectations, and the claimant should be able to sever the service without additional fees.
I AM NOT GOING TO PAY $44.95 PER MONTH FOR AN ANSWERING MACHINE. THEY HAVE ALSO RAISED THE PRICE 3.97 A MONTH. THIS IS NOT WHAT I WAS SOLD. THE ONLY THING THEY ARE INTERESTED IS COLLECTING THAT MONTHLY PREMIUM. I WAS TOLD WHEN I PURCHASED IF WE HAD AN ALARM SET OFF THE SHERIFF 'S WOULD BE ALERTED. WHICH IS WHAT WE GOT AT FIRST. NOW AN ANSWERING MACHINE IN COLARADO. THEY WILL NOT LISTEN TO WHAT THE PROBLEM WAS WAS IS THE WORD I WANT NOTHING TO DO WITH THEM. I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO CONTACT THEN SINCE DEC. 21, 2016. TO CANCELL THIS ANSWERING MACHINE. MONEY IS THEIR ONLY CONCERN. THEY HAVE STARTED CALLING ME ONCE OR TWICE A DAY, TO TELL ME MY BILL IS PAST DUE. WHICH I AM NOT GOING TO KEEP PUTTING UP WITH THIS AGGREVATION. I THINK THAT IS CALLED HARRRASMENT. NOW I WANT THE WHOLE DEAL CANCELLED IMMEDIATELY. I AM NOT PAYING THEM ONE RED CENT. THEY DONOT HAVE A SERVICE OR PROTECTION TO OFFER. I WANT THIS MESS CANCELLED. I AM NOT GOING TO PAY ONE CENT. I WANT THE WHOLE THING CLEARED UP WITH OUT ANY REPROCUSIONS. BUT IF NECESSARY I WILL PURSUE OTHER AGENCY . YOU KNOW I AM 77 YEARS OLD I HAVE NOTHING BUT TIME. MARTHA JACKSON
