Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"Dominion Power Company charged "me" THE TENANT a one time threatening payment of over $3,000 eariler this year for a light bill that escalated from a damaged reading meter attached to the back of the house. I had only been in the property one month with no previous balance when I received a light bill for close to $700. The next month I received another bill for the same high amount, then another one again, until it was over $3,000. I started calling dominion power company many times asking why was my bill so high. I requested an investigation. They sent out a technican who found the reading meter stuck with rust all in the inside and water sitting rusty inside the dome. He had to put on a protective suit to replace it. I am being attacked on this matter. I had just had my car catch on fire while I was driving on the highway and almost lost my life because the system shut down and locked all doors. I lost everything in the car due to the fire. Then this matter came up exactly a month later. I had just moved in the house and receive a bill for close to $700. They said they could not help me and if I did not pay it my service would be cut-off. I endured much stressful pain during this period in my life behind this matter. I kept calling back over and over and was given extensions, etc. It was hard for me to get that kind of money. At the same time make my rent payments. I addressed the issue to the landlord and he said he was not helping me because it was not his problem, but dominion power company problem and they should reimburse me etc.. I went back to dominion power and they said that is not true it is the owner/landlord problem who also has faulty equipment hooked up to the house. In the meantime they both were charging me fees and I receive two additional threatening cut-off notices? I just paid another one. I did not understand what I did wrong. I also feel that I should file a separate claim against the landlord. Is it really his problem???? Dominion said it is the landlord's fault. I just want to be treated fairly and feel it was not done so in this matter. I feel so bad about this that I don't even want to use their service anymore in my life. Both companies and the owner of the property for thinking he is better than average people in this world."

Additional Communication Between Claimant and Dominion Energy Hide
  • Nov 23, 2014, Claiming party added:
  • Again, I say that as the tenant, I fullfilled my responsibility and reported to all parties in a timely manner. I know that the owner, management, and Domonion Power could care less about what I paid out. I know I was just getting over a near death situation with my car and the meter on that house caused me more hardship for over 9 months of the year. Dominion Power said I needed to take this up with the owner. But it appears they said something different to the owner or management? I asked to get that old faulty meter and Dominion would not give it to me. I really did not have money to give to replace that meter. l was overcharged due to a faulty meter. The new meter is not stuck and rusty so the readings for ther new tenant should be much better. I would like to know if I can take the meter with me when I leave the property? I see I need to continue to push these issues until I find someone to hepl me.

  • I disagree with the explanation / grounds provided

"This matter was discussed with the tenant via the electrical company who went out and inspected the issues brought to the management firm. According to the notes of the Electrical company the tenat was advised to call Dominion and report an issue with the meter. It is not the responsibility of the management firm or the electrical company to report an issue with the meter because that is the acocunt owner's responsibility. This matter should not address the management firm as we have completed all necessary actions and provided information as necessary. "
