Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I bought a wood stove in good faith of the advertisement that it would heat 2100 square feet which I have and it does not even heat 800 square feet. I have always had to run our minisplit heater to heat the 2 open rooms in our double wide along with the stove. It is supposed to get a 9-10 hour burn and we get 2-3 hours. we have to get up twice in an 8 hour period to put wood in it at night. It is such a disappointment to me and so very expensive. The seller said my teenage son could install it and then when I disputed with the credit card roger leget was sarcastic and said it was just installed by her teen age son. he said I probably did not have the right key and never sent me the right one. after stove would not work right he told me to buy a moisture meter at lowes to check moisture in our wood which was very dead and dry. I was not told this was necessary when I purchased the stove. the meter was between 35 and 40 dollars. I reported to credit card company and was ask to get a second opinion from a heating company which I did which said stove was installed right and would not heat this square footage or burn 9-10 hours. there was a glinch in the faxing of my information to credit card company and so by the time they received my information they said time had expired for the case. this man said he would come from Washington state to misssouri to fix the stove and I did not feel safe with that being a single mother after so much dishonesty. just seemed very improbable. he told credit card co. that I did not respond to that offer which was another lie because I text him back telling him I was uncomfortable with it and ask more than once to return it and he refused. I checked other companies and one offered to allow customer 6 months to use the stove and if dissatisfied the company would pay to have it shipped back. I did not ask for that but felt that company was much more secure with their product. apparently this man created a nice stove in the Kimberly but this katydid does not work well and is not as advertised. I need to purchase a stove that wll heat my home and tried to resolve issue with merchant on my own but he would not resolve. I would not recommend this product to anyone. I was very inexperienced with buying a stove and after researching wood stoves more feel that the product is way over priced even if it worked better."

Additional Communication Between Claimant and Unforgettable Fire, Llc Hide
  • Jul 14, 2016, Unforgettable Fire, LLC (responding party) added:
  • This is to the People Clam administration, it is a copy of what I have sent Diana Chang. I am upset that I received this notice that I have not responded to a claim as I have had written exchanges with your staff (emails can be shared if necessary). Shortly after Mrs Chang set up this people claim venue she contacted me separately and I was trying to work with her. She then wanted to make her complaint public.....I feel pretty set up in this fashion. I did respond to People Claim that an attorney had been asked to look at this for potential legal action.

    Diana Chang,

I offered to drive 6 hours out of my way Diana......and nobody has been dishonest with you. I'll not take kindly to your "public bashing", you will probably make yourself look foolish as I am happy to supply the public (as a response to your public display) a list of people who will tell how I drove hundreds of miles to go and help them, at no charge and with great success. This is what you refused and then claim that you told me with a CC rep on the line when NO SUCH CONVERSATION HAS EVER HAPPENED. it seems you have an honesty issue.

Again, please read the clearly posted "ordering information" section regarding the policy of all sales final. You have also acknowledged that quickly after telling you I would try to find a buyer one did make contact with you....I have those e mails available as well. The professional you hired NEVER (nor did the installer) make contact with me and I never so much as got pictures of the installed unit until a few days ago when I asked for them. How is said professional or installer to help you when they know nothing of our very different stoves, ones backed by the EPA burn wise program. Just because the first attempt at a buyer was "put off" by your contact does not mean we wont find another or several and eventually help you find a buyer.

Another option is we get someone to your home that I can WORK WITH, I would select the individual and even pay their bill on your behalf. Sorry but I am not getting on an airplane and coming to Missouri. You could have had friends present when my wife and 16 year old daughter and I would have come when we were only three hours away, now you claim you would do that when it means me flying out and back, totally unreasonable. This behavior is odd to say the least

So this is my resolve, as stated CLEARLY on our website ALL SALES ARE FINAL. We can continue to find you a buyer and let you dictate price with them, I'll honor the warranty on the stove and they can take advantage of our low shipping costs......or.....I'll pay a local professional to go to your home and go through a check list that you absolutely refused to work with me on to make sure the stove does what it is supposed to do. We would employ Skype or face time so I can see the unit running and advise the technician.

I wish to remind you that within ONE WEEK of receiving your stove (and my not getting to work with ANY installer nor you even being willing to work with me or let me come to your home with my family) you demanded your money back. I asked you to work with me and YOU refused. This is anything but good faith and I'm tired of being called dishonest, apparently the credit card company agreed with my position as they refused your charge back and gave us back our funds.

There is the limit of what I am willing to discuss

    Roger Lehet

As an addendum to this letter I would like to review our clams of operation. #1 "up to 10 hours of burn time" as explained "coal bed to coal bed". Up to is using properly cured hard woods, not properly cured or soft woods will give shorter burn times. You refused to even spend the $20.00 a moisture meter costs ( I know you claim $45.00 but many people found the for $15.00, this is documentable). #2 heated area described as "up to 2000 square feet of well insulated space". double wide manufactured homes are not well insulated and therefore the "up to" part is very important and well shown in the text body of our claim section. I can also document people who are heating larger than 2000 square feet very happily, some of whom live in Alaska or White Horse where temperatures drop to 60 below zero at night.

Again you had the stove less than a week before demanding your money back. I never got to work with whomever installed it nor an independent stove professional ( why would you hire someone and not have them talk with the inventor???) and you refused a personal visit from the inventor himself who would have driven to your home from Seattle on his way to or from Asheville NC. It is my position that you have shown less than good faith and yet call me a liar and a ripoff.....and now threaten to do so publicly.

At this time my legal counsel has recommended I ask customers who have worked with us for testimonials to add to this claim so that the public will see why feel that there is no way to make you happy and that it is simply best to try and facilitate a new home for the stove and be finished with this matter. It is unusual for a manufacturer to offer the things we have offered and very unusual to offer to extend a warranty to a new owner with the stove being sight un seen by our staff before changing hands.......we believe in our product.

Again I regret that you were offered a chance to receive help when I was only 3.5 hours from your home with my family both in March and in April and would have come with a smile and ready to make this work. You could have had people at your home at the time but refused. Now you demand I fly out there during the month of July and do what you refused then. I'm sorry to say this but this does not sound too intelligent on your part....why could you not have had people at your home when we showed up in March or April?? Many of your statements such as having a credit card rep on the phone with me are simply untrue.

    Roger Lehet

  • Roger Lehert of Unforgettable Fires instructed me to insert a 4" pipe
into the 6" manufactured chimney pipe and stuff between the two pipes
ordinary house insulation misrepresenting that this method was safe and
acceptable to prevent creosote from moisture, among other things; after
his stove, a Katydid and pipes for nearly 5K stopped working after a
mere use of 3 weeks. Stove was purchased earlier, but lit for first time
after install and inspection on Dec 09, 2016. He insisted that the
stove was installed improperly and instructions in the manual were not
followed e.g. “the flu was supposed to go all the way up to the chimney
with a stainless steel liner,” however those instructions are nowhere to
be found in the manual. However, upon three independent inspections
from experts, a manual’s review the installation; stove was installed as
manual represented, and to code. Pictures sent to Lehert. He insisted
that his approach and waiting for him to come in May, would solve all
problems, yet the stove oozes creosote from all screws, and corners of
stove. Fire Dept, has advised not to use--dangerous. Yet Lehert insists
creosote is not dangerous he can burn it out "inside" my home as well.
During the course of reasonable care I discovered at the behest of
experts that what Lehert " does not sound right at all" and would not
give Lehert the time of day for what he proposed. Lehert also admitted
that he is neither licensed nor insured to do such work. When the last
expert indicated there is a special lining for manufactured chimneys,
requesting a stove diagram, noting that Lehert’s manual did not have
sufficient information to do the installation. Lehert rather than
contact installer, agreed to send me a check for the stove and pipes..
When I agreed, he gave me a story about money he was out paying for
attorney fees that it would be some time. I proceeded to request date
certain, so I can replace stove and have heat. Lehert responded he was
    not going to do anything.
