how do you file a claim against Sapphire? Is it easy through the BBB Southern Nevada?
Do not fall for this. After 6 months they will bring you back for an owner update to scam you even more. The customer service department is a joke and so are the free trips they give you. No one will call you back and if you have fallen for this scam I would contact an attorney as consumer sales fraud is illegal. After 3 months of trying to make sense of it all, I had to simply walk out so that I did not put my license in jeopardy for having to follow the never ending rules and false statements made to clients by the closers and presenters. Run run run.. do not buy with this company.. I can help you make sense of how you were scammed so you can further legal assistance.
According Nevada laws you have 5 days to cancel. You call sapphire and tell them you want to cancel. You have to fax them as well with your signature stating you want to cancel. I cancelled last year 2 days after i bought it.
May I ask what where the lies? Me and my wife just purchased and I want to cancel if this is a scam
Timeshares try to follow proper selling rules and would rarely outright lie. The salespeople mostly make implications and exaggerations. Two of my sales people casually mentioned how much cheaper they bought into the timeshare a few years prior. They cannot say it's an investment or that the value will increase, but they implied it does. When we realized the timeshare was not a good value and decided we would be better off without it, we found out that Sapphire does not take back contracts and in the resell market we would at best get someone to pay closing cost. The $10k we've paid toward membership is of no value to Sapphire or anyone else.Value is our main gripe. The actual timeshare is usable but inventory is limited. They have a tier system so many other people and other timeshares have access to book before you. We've spent a number of vacations in less ideal locations such as the desert (Palm Springs, Las Vegas) in summer because of low availability. One salesperson mentioned that hotel prices will inevitably increase over the years but we would lock in prices with a timeshare now. That is not true because we booked Aquamarine Villas in Oceanside for 19,000 points in July 2014. The last two years the July price rose up to 24,000 points. That's a 26% increase! So no, prices are not locked in.I also noticed inventory decreasing over the years. It might not be Sapphire's fault because a lot of other timeshares use RCI inventory. Maybe the industry as a whole has over sold timeshares.Overall, it is not a good value, booking is more complicated vs looking for a hotel, you will be limiting where you can vacation when you are trying to use points before they expire, and they will continue trying to sell you more points.
I also have over 15,000 points and for the last three years I have never been able to book vacation plan or get any of my free trips that they offered cuz nothing was ever bailable should have known should have could have would have. if anybody hears of a way out I would love to know.
False inducement is a real thing. Talk to your lawyer about this. A salesman can't say something that isn't true and that you rely on in order to persuade you to buy. What exactly did he say? Something that was true or not true? If he said you COULD rent your week and you were allowed in the contract to do that then you might be able to deduct the costs from your taxes. If you were just buying it for your own vacation, then that's a puzzler.
Very interesting comments by the people that got away. VERY FUNNY that they tried to make Lety M feel bad about wanting to use that money for a college fund. Salespeople love to belittle you and it can seriously backfire. Years ago a car salesman called me about a car I'd looked at. I said I was going to talk to my wife that night and he actually jeered at me and said oh, you can't make a decision without wifey?
I said sure I can - I just made the decision never to buy a car from a complete jackass that doesn't understand that partners make decisions together - I'm going down the road to your competition.
I talked to Sapphire's Director of Finacing, Joe Sacco, and according to him it is NOT tax deductible. Despite the misinformation, Sapphire Resorts remain unapologetic and expect the contract to continue as is.I am working with a timeshare attorney. I will share info when I see results. So far Sapphire has cease and desisted contacting me which is nice.
I bought mine in May 2017 and I have not been able to make sense of it. I get the run around and it appears as if all they told me to get me to buy turned out to be misleading. I am trying to figure out how I can get out of it. Any ideas
I am currently building my case for Sapphire Resorts to cancel my contract. I am mostly using the guidelines of the timeshareconsumernews channel on YouTube.
You have a good presentation. Unfortunately, I can relate. I agreed to open a high interest loan with them based on the assurance that "it's tax deductible. You own it and your payments are like a mortgage."
if you can, please keep me/this post updated. For better or worse, your situation if where I'll be in 9-12 months from now.
Update: building my own case did not do much while I tried to reason with the timeshare, but I did forward my story and contract to a group led by Mitchell Reed Sussman & Associates and they were successful in getting us out of the timeshare. This was a few years ago and I’ve not heard a peep from our former timeshare since.
This is so sad. I also attended the 90 minute seminar at the hockey club in Las Vegas. Everyone was rude when I said Saphire had terrible reviews and is a scam. I said I was not Interested in purchasing anything and thanked them for their time. They said if $130 a month would impact my lifestyle and I said yes. They were upset and bullied me and my husband about us wanting to use that $130 a month towards our children's college fund. They said a vacation every year would benefit our family much more. I laughed and my husband said the high interest finance is a joke. The sales people were in shock about us doing our research while everyone else signed the contract. I was annoyed by all the bell ringing and loud obnoxious voices. Sorry to the people that are not strong enough to say no!
On our way to Vegas the radio add came on saying call in with the rite answer and win big! So I ended up winning the trivia and they gave me 2 free nights at the jockey but I had to attend this presentation! I'm like ya of course I'll take it!and this was the outcome....>>I also was at the presentation today 03/23/2017 and we were pressured into signing the contract. We sat there for 5 hours and they never once said anything about putting a 900$ down payment they only said we would pay 189 a month and I agreed thinking my first payment would be today. After giving them my card info they charged me then an hour later took me to someone else's office by the name of Taylor she then gave me a reciept off 900$ and I said wth!? Where did we ever agree to pay 900$!!! She goes "oh, he didn't tell you that?" I go no he never once said that! We then had the big boss come in and offer us to pay only 600 today instead of 900 and now at this point I'm like no this is ridiculous, he then offered us a deal to pay only 200!!! And he even threw in a paid trip to Disney and a paid trip to the Bahamas!! After this I was like no this has got to be a scam so I asked them for a second to think. While they left the room I googled the reviews and found one that had the woman's name that was helping me in the review ! So I read her the bad review that had her name in it and all these bad things to say and all she said was "I'm not thing to sell you anything you can walk out of here and say no" and that we did!! THANK GOD ! Vegas is full of scammers.
Nice escape. Did you make SURE that your contract was cancelled? Get it in writing!!!!!! you only have three days tops.
Nevada legislation bans developers or salespeople of timeshares from any deceptive behavior or misleading verbiage to potential timeshare buyers or unjust acts in a timeshare transaction. The following acts, to name a few, comprise deceptive practices under this legislation:
That's an excellent comment. I decided long ago that whatever a timeshare company was offering as a 'no-strings' inducement to hear the presentation, it wasn't worth it. The badgering is terrible and you get tired and confused. Also, as a former real estate agent who was given a presentation about selling about a timeshare, I know that the pay-off to developers is enormous - multiply out the cost of one week's ownership x 50-52 and then add in 50-52 x the 'maintenance' fee. Quite motivating. My only query is why the claim is being made now if the purchase was made last year. Perhaps the claimant can add some information about when he or she started the quest to cancel? I know from experience that people rarely know how to go about disputing a purchase like this, especially when the other party is adamant that there is no recourse - but what, if any, avenues have been tried so far?
