Statement of Claim
"Rotor Rooter sent a follow-up survey regarding a recent visit to my home on Tuesday June 21st, the following are my comments:

I can't believe it cost me $455.00 for a 20 minute visit. I spoke to the manager Debbie who confirmed that they quoted us this price up front and we agreed to the work. The missing piece is when you hear that price you believe this must be a BIG problem and will take the repair person considerable time to fix. You do not expect the repair person to be done in 20 minutes. Why doesn't Roto-Rooter just say the minimum is $455.00. I would have called another firm. I thought with the name recognition Roto-Rooter was a reputable company. I will be telling my story to everyone I know including the BBB and Attorney General in Connecticut Richard Blumenthal , Congress woman Rosa DeLauro and consumer advocate Senator Elizabeth Warren.

I have yet to hear from Roto-Rooter in response to my review. As noted, I did speak to a manager (Debbie) who agreed to give me an online coupon credit of $40.00 applied to my bill ( I haven’t recieved it yet)

The price for the visit seems very excessive, Roto-Rooter claims they base their price on a flat rate but they refuse to give you an explanation on how they arrive at that rate. I am also appalled at the insidious way they go about the life cycle of the visit.

The initial call is great, we will send a technician to your home and the estimate is free (sounds awesome). Keep in mind you are without running water during this time. The next day a tech arrives during the appointment window (awesome again). Then the boom get lowered, the quote is $455.00, can’t wait another day without water and thinking this blockage must be a big, labor intensive deal you agree to pay and sign before the commencement of work (according to the manager this makes everything upfront an legal). The killer is 20 minutes later the tech is done and says goodbye.

I can only assume since the time it took to complete the job was 20 minutes, this must be the minimum rate (I can’t get any further information on how they base their pricing) or $1000.00 per hour. If I knew during making the appointment that $455.00 was the least I would be paying I would have called another company and not waste another day without water.. This practice maybe legal(I am not an attorney)but it certainly is not ethical.

Please help me get some sort of credit or at least post my comments so others can be warned of the unethical business practices of Roto-Rooter.

"Per Roto Rooter General Manager Stephen Parker :

With regard to claim # 1263981-109235
    Roto Rooter did nothing wrong.
The customer approved work to be done and signed invoice before beginning work after we gave a no obligation estimate
Customer complained after the fact that he thought price was too high.
I reduced / credited the credit card by $40 and the customer seemed satisfied
The customer put in another complaint and reached out to you.
We feel we have been more than fair
