Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"My built-in Kitchenaid refrigerator KSSC42FMS went south while I was on vacation. I lost a side of beef plus all that was in the frig. Now, it seems to be a big problem to repair because the circuit board W10219463 is not available for 6 to 8 weeks. My model is 5 plus years old which seems way too soon to go out. This is a very high end refrigerator and I am very upset about it. The odor left in the refrigerator may never be remedied. I certainly hope the reordered board lasts a long time."

  • According to our records, this refrigerator was purchased in March of 2006 making the unit over 11 years old. Your model has a two year full warranty. In an effort to administer our warranty fairly to all customers, Whirlpool Corporation complies with our legal, written, product warranty. Once a product warranty has expired, any costs for maintenance, service or component replacement are then within the owner’s time frame of responsibility. You are more than 9 years outside of that warranty period. Please see the section under KITCHENAID will not pay for; number 5 which reads, “Any food or medicine loss due to product failure.” As our warranty excludes food loss and you are substantially outside of the warranty period; your request for compensation is respectfully denied. A copy of the manufacturer's warranty on this model is attached.

  • I no longer buy Whirlpool appliances, ever. A fridge door quite literally fell off because the hinges were too weak to support the weight of milk etc (items that the door shelves were specifically made to fit); the glass stove top cracked across; the dishwasher burned out fast. In each case the appliance was just outside the warranty and Whirlpool was unresponsive to my calls and letters. An appliance is an expensive purchase and should be fit for the purpose it's made (and sold) for.
