Claimant says:
"I contracted for resurfacing of my patio deck. When the job was completed, I was satisfied until a few months later when the surface started to bubble up, burst and then peel. I contacted the Company. They inspected and offered to do repairs as bubbles burst. Obviously, that was not a long term answer to a job that was guaranteed for 2 years. When I complained, they offered to redo the job by removing the existing surface but wanted an additional $1400 to do the job. I refused to give them more money as I lost confidence in the Company. They returned and offered me the $646 for the original job. However, now I must pay to remove the surface they applied and have it resurfaced at a much greater cost. The salesman who sold us the job promised that the paint would not peel. The contract states under the Warranty Clause "Sundek "Gold Coast Surfaces", Inc. hereby provides owner a two year guarantee against defective material or workmanship i.e., bond failure, including chipping, flaking or peeling of the Sundek application" The owner of the Company was rude and uncooperative."

Message from Gold Coast Surfaces, Inc. (Sundek): The Hallsteine deck had many coats of peeling paint before Sundek did any work. Mrs. Hallsteine admitted she had a peeling paint issue which is why she called Sundek.
When I looked at the bubbled and peeling Sundek it was very evident that the old paint was still peeling and resulted in the Sundek color coming up. The sundek color was applied with a primer. And was tightly bonded to the old paint. However, if the existing paint is old and already failing the entire surface should be removed before applying any new color.
Our representative should have made it very clear to the Halsteine's that if the old paint has some peeling issues then those issues could cause failure of the new paint application.. Our sales rep should have not sold the job, Without making it clear that the peeling paint needs to be removed before any new application is done.We have offered to refund the job amount of $646.00. The claim that they have to remove the paint now is misleading in that the existing paint on the surface is the problem and not the Sundek.
