I'm surprised to see this complaint on Twitter. I can't believe that any reputable dealership wouldn't investigate this complaint immediately and get it taken care of! Brakes do not fall off. They may wear out prematurely if you stand on them going down mountains, but they don't fall off. If a mechanic was having a bad day...then their "bad day" might have killed you, and then your widow/widower would be suing Southtown Chrysler for everything they've got.
The second repair shop says that the brakes were improperly installed, and that is what caused the brakes to fall off. If there's another "side to the story," I'm not seeing it. If Go Auto/Southtown Chrysler doesn't pay for their mistake, sue them. Dear god, what is wrong with them.
In a nutshell: Go Auto/Southtown Chrysler replaced your brakes and rotors at a cost of $1741.81 on ~October 10, 2019.
On February 14 2020 your brakes...fell off. Auto/Southtown Chrysler, 109 km away, did not respond to your understandable concerns.
You then took your car to the much closer Ford dealership, which found that the brakes had been improperly installed and made repairs to the tune of $947.25.
Correct?
Brake pads should last 25-65,000 miles. It seems unlikely that you've driven that far, but even if you had, I have never in my life heard of a brake pad just falling off. As you say, this was extremely dangerous and careless.
I had a similar situation where a wheel fell off my daughter's car on a main highway after the tires had been rotated. The garage that did the rotation initially refused to pay for the repair. The AAA repairperson who rescued her wrote a pithy account of exactly what the problem had been. The original repair shop suddenly felt that they would indeed pay her expenses. Of course, they're extremely lucky that we didn't sue them, and they knew it.
I would suggest that Go Auto/Southtown Chrysler immediately review the situation and your documentation--both in the interests of getting this claim closed and for the safety of future customers. I also suggest that you attach a .pdf of the documentation to this claim, with personal info blacked out.
If the facts are as you say, then obviously Go Auto/Southtown Chrysler owes you a minimum the cost of your second repair (but not the original repair) and, in my opinion, compensation for the time you've spent dealing with this.
I am unfamiliar with the Canadian legal system, but I assume that you have some version of Small Claims Court. If Go Auto/Southtown Chrysler does not respond in a timely manner, I'd recommend taking them to court. They will certainly not enjoy the experience.
And if there's something missing from your account that exonerates Go Auto/Southtown Chrysler , I'd recommend they say so quickly.
