Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"Hi, my name is Doug Howard acct# 14116381. I just wanted make you aware of the issues that I have dealt with in the 2 months I was a customer of Direct TV. I was quoted $110 a month in June 2014 to bundle our tv, internet and phone, when I got my first bill it was for $171.30. I called and was told I was being charged a month ahead and my bill would be the right amount next month. My second bill was for $191.24 and when called they explained that the bill was correct and I was quoted the wrong amount when I signed up. I also had trouble with my TV going out during storms and was told that was normal. My wife and I are retired and on fixed income that is why we chose to leave Comcast and go with Century Link, since your company was unwilling to honor the quote we were given and the fact that I was on hold more than I was communicating with anyone I finally gave up and cancelled our service. Even cancelling our service was a challenge, nobody seems to know whether or not you will pick up the dish or if we should dispose of it ourselves. My wife called this morning to see if we could get the cancellation fee reduced since we were only with you for 2 mo and had tried to work with you and had no success but we were told cancellation fee could not be reduced. I can only say that I am disappointed with Century Link and question the integrity of your company. I hope that in the future you will make sure your quotes are accurate and that you will honor them."

    I do apologize for any issues you had setting up a bundling order with DIRECTV and CenturyLink. I do see that you ordered your services through a CenturyLink retail dealer. Please keep in mind that we are two separate companies who's services are independent of each other. The bundling offer is for a possible discount for having both services. The terms of the services for each of the services providers would still apply.

    The promotional offers for each services would still be based on account eligibility. We would only be able to activate the DIRECTV side of the New Customer offer. When I reviewed your account I did see that your first bill from us was only $63.75 and was sent to CenturyLink 6/13/2014, This is the correct amount for DIRECTV with the current new customer offer the Genie system and the ULTIMATE package as well as the $5.00 bundling discount. I also see that we sent this to you in a confirmation letter in the mail for our part of the cost (not including taxes).

    I understand you may have had concerns with CenturyLink and the bundled amount, however this does not void the terms of our services and the DIRECTV Programming Agreement for the activation of the lease equipment we provided. We are not able to reduce the Early Cancellation Fee; however you can have DIRECTV services independently of CenturyLink. The only change would be the $5.00 bundling discount that you would no longer receive. We can than reactive your account and remove the Early Cancellation Fee to allow you to fulfill the agreement on the account.

    Also, we can look over the installation of your dish to make sure that it does not need to be realigned if it is going out in mild to clear weather. Only very bad weather should cause issues as it physically blocks the signal form the satellite in the sky to your dish.
