Claimant says:
"My parents paid over $200,000 ( all the money they had) for a cottage in Brandon Place located in the Moose Haven complex in Orange Park, Florida. According to their contract, they were supposed to be able to live in it until they needed long term care. They were both reasonably healthy and didn't expect to move to long term care for years.

About a year after they moved in, Moose Haven Administration told they had to move to Long term care because the Moose Haven agent had made a mistake on the paperwork and they should never have been let in for $200,??? because they didn't have any outside assets to pledge to the agency. My parents were forced to move into the Long Term living facility. When they complained about it, they were told they would be thrown out on the street if they didn't comply.

They have signed over their Medicare and Social Security payments to Moose Haven and Moose Haven took all their savings. This sounds like fraud to me. I have also learned from residents that they overbill Medicare. For instances, a shingles shot was billed as an x-ray. Although this place is under the umbrella of the national Moose Lodge, they let the managers run the place as they see fit. It is my understanding that nepotism is rampant and they higher pretty much family members. Also residents of the home work for them and get paid about $1.75 for four hours work which has to be against state laws. They have residents by the "short hairs". This place might be a good deal for Moose Haven members who have no income but social security and no savings but they steal and threaten from everyone else. This has to be considered Elder Abuse and fraud against residents and Medicare."

"I wrote this letter seeking mediation for my parents. Moosehaven threatened to sue me if I pursued the matter. They refused to provide proof of their claims that my parents had somehow spent all their money while staying at Moisehaven. Subsequently I read complaints from Moose Lodge members stating that their business practices are shady and they should be investigated. My parents are out of the facility now but say they were held for three years under duress. They believe this was to rob them of their savings."
