Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"My truck was towed to Armstrong Body Shop on March 7th 2017 for engine replacement.  The owner Fredrick Tyrone Armstrong assured me that my vehicle would be repaired no later than March 14th 2017.  On March 14th I contacted the shop to ask what time I could pick up my vehicle and was told it wasn't ready and to give them a few more days to complete.  Since then I had been given several dates of completion which none were met.   I had to get a rental car @ 25.00 per day due to the prolonged delay in my repairs.  I showed up one day unannounced and the owner Mr. Armstrong apologized for delaying admitting that his shop had been at fault with the repairs and told me that he would help with the labor which was $500.00 I asked him to just cover half of the rental which for him would have been $212.50 he agreed verbally.
In the meantime he loaned me his truck to drive which I've had to have repaired because it stopped working costing me an additonal $92.76 and he would not come for 1 week to check it out, not to mention whenever it rains it leaks from the sunroof and I have been soaked.  This was his temporary fix to save me rental car money and yes I took it because I did not want to have so much in rental fees and get stuck paying them and the shop at the same time.
We had an argument last  April 23rd 2017 week becuase he felt that I was calling him to much asking him for my vehicle and he told me he had decided not to reduce the labor fees because I had bee bothering him to much.
On April 30t, now you do the math he calls and tells me my truck is ready so whenever I asked about the adjustment he told me that he was sorry and he wasn't going to be able to make the adjustment.
As his customer in all honesty Armstrong Paint and Body Shop due to the prolonged delay in repairs since it falls on his shop should cover the full cost of the labor $500.00  and I'll gladly pay for the parts which should not equal the same as the labor.  I've been more than patient with Mr. Armstrong"

Additional Communication Between Claimant and Armstrong Body Shop Hide
  • May 08, 2017, Armstrong Body Shop (responding party) added:
  • Well the vehicle has been ready for a week now, and she still have not pick her vehicle up, she is still driving my truck , which I need back, now

  • May 09, 2017, Claiming party added:
  • Today I received a text message from Armstrong Body Shop threatening to add on additional charges for storage and admitting that he will not be making any adjustments although he admitted fully that his shop was at fault for this delay in repairing my 2005 trailblazer. This is my last attempt to get Armstrong Body Shop to make the necessary adjustments due to his shop's lack.
I don't think I'm being unfair by asking for the adjustment. Mr. Armstrong loaned me a vehicle that is not reliable which also cost me money in repairs during the time that it has been in my care. I have not asked to be reimbursed for any repairs made the his truck. I will pick up my truck once the adjustment has been made. Also, I'll be submitting the text with him refusing to adjust the final billing. As a business owner this is very bad business. I'm an administrator and very smart and I know when I'm being jerked around. I hope that the BBB speeds this matter up and get this resolved otherwise I'm going to say that this method of resolution was not helpful on my behalf. However I would like the statement from Mr. Armstrong to be added to this public file please read below:

"YYes the 2005 chevy trailblazer was at my shop to replace a motor, it to longer, because it was harder to take out and put in, and my merchainical, was getting lazy on the job, I never lie to Mrs. Gillispe, I was getting information. From my merchainical, , so I got tired of my merchainical, so I hired another merchainical and got the job done, the truck is fix and Mrs gillispe still have not pick it up, the job have been complete for 5 days, counting today, Friday, May 5, "

  • May 09, 2017, Armstrong Body Shop (responding party) added:
  • LLike I said there will be no adjustment, and ms gillispe is lying about have to put money in the truck I let her drive , she is the reason the truck would not crank, because she left the radio on all night, she even said that,

  • May 10, 2017, Claiming party added:
  • Armstrong Body Shop failed to have repairs completed on several dates as promised as listed in the first complaint. Due to his lazy mechanic and his failure to oversee the completion as the Manger of this establishment the job was not completed nor delivered. This has been an ongoing battle between this company and myself. If this is how Mr. Armstrong treats his customers he's truly a very bad business owner and should not be allowed to be open to the public. He has admitted that his mechanic was being lazy which did in fact cause this delay in completion. I was only asking for $212.50 which is half of the rental fees now I'm asking that all labor charges be adjusted off on my behalf.

  • Sep 17, 2017, Armstrong Body Shop (responding party) added:
  • The truck has been ready for over 3 months, and no one has pick the truck up, what should i do.

  • Sep 18, 2017, Claiming party added:
  • Mr. Armstrong still has not made the adjustments to the labor cost as verbally agreed upon. I just want him to be fair and keep his promise to adjust the price for the car rental and reduce the labor cost since he did in fact admit that his shop did not keep the scheduled date to release my truck. This matter is a retaliation of a ongoing failed love affair that has gone bad which I mentioned in my very first claim, and the reason why I say that is because on the day that my truck was towed Mr. Armstrong wiped my tears and told me not to worry about anything and even if I couldn't pay we would work out a payment arrangement as we have done so many times in the past. I believed him and trusted that he would keep his word but this time he did not. Being a mother of 3 teenagers and single adds an additional financial strain on my finances, also since this has taken place life has hit very hard I've been undergoing preventive treatment for breast cancer and have had to take demotion due to lack of transportation because Mr. Armstrong refuses to make the adjustment. As a matter of fact we recently talked about my situation and he again informed me I should called him just to let him know how was doing and at I told him things were ok but I was still not in a good place financially as I had once been due to so much happening all at once. I've tried to reach out to Mr. Armstrong to amend this matter but he will not speak with me regarding it and when he does he's not willing to work with me. All I'm asking for is the adjustment to be made. If he's refusing the adjustment then all I can do is make an arrangement to make payments on the amount owed and have my truck paid in full and picked up no later than October 15th 2017. If I fail to keep my arrangement then I fully take responsibility for the outcome of this matter.

  • Sep 18, 2017, Armstrong Body Shop (responding party) added:
  • I am done with these lies, if she dont get her truck by friday, sept. 22th of 2020, will start charging storage fee, 15 a day

  • Sep 18, 2017, Claiming party added:
  • Mr. Armstrong-- here's where we are: Armstrong Paint and Body Shop would like to receive payment and keep the shop's rating "A", otherwise, Mr. Armstrong would not have responded to the request from BBB. Armstrong Paint and Body Shop would like for Veneshia to remove her truck from his property or pay storage fees.

Veneshia proposes that since Mr. Armstrong admitted his shop was at fault for all delays in the repairs, (which caused his shop not to deliver in a timely matter), in order to keep his "A" he should be more than willing to make the adjustment as promised for $212.00 for rental fees or loose his 'A' status with BBB as a result of non compliance for 100% customer satisfactory.

Also, Veneshia requested that Mr. Armstrong grants her 30 days from today's date to have her truck paid in full no later than the close of business on Oct 17th, 2017 without any additional fees for storage, which clearly will not exceed his demand as listed below. Veneshia has explained to Mr. Armstrong that due to her recent hardships she's requesting only 30 more days.

However, if Veneshia can't keep the agreed upon date for pickup, Mr. Armstrong has every right to take whatever legal actions necessary to receive his payment upon Veneshia's failure to comply with the agreed upon arrangement. Whether Veneshia has to pay the full balance or the adjusted balance the pick up date will remain the same. In the event that no adjustment is not made on Veneshia's behalf the rating for Armstrong Paint and Body Shop should still be lowered since BBB can plainly see that Mr. Armstrong has no intentions of creating a positive experience to support his 100% customer satisfaction statement. All of the above has been typed by Veneshia Gillespie Mr. Armstrong as is aware of the statements above.

  • Sep 28, 2017, Claiming party added:
  • Although, no settlement has been made and all verbal agreements have been broken there's no reason to continue with this claim. It's clear that Mr. Armstrong has no intensions of honoring his word on behalf of the company. To keep your word used to be a bond, but in this day and age a person's word is just a word to satisfy the moment. As an administrator, someone's word is just a word and it means nothing more than its definition. If Mr.. Armstrong wants to honor his word it will be by his choice not by force and at this point he has clearly chosen not to do so. Therefore, whatever the outcome of this situation is will still be a gain for me because I choose to end this chaos and walk away. If Mr. Armstrong wants to discuss this further he has my all of my contact information. Good day and thank you BBB for your time although nothing came out of this except for the peace of mind I have received in closing this case.

  • I can't tell whether you're asking for $500 off the labor on the truck or $212 for half the rental, Or both?

How much was the total repair? I would agree that seven weeks is an ridiculously long time to take to repair a truck.

What was the $93 repair to the loaner for? If it was a jumpstart, that shouldn't be a factor.
