Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"Hired them to do painting in my home. They gave me an estimate to paint ceilings in living room, kitchen, hallway and two bathrooms, and paint interior doors (both sides and frames). They were also to paint two bathroom walls throughout-and remove wall paper from one bathroom and wall boarder from another. They were to prep and do minor repairs before painting. They really promised the world when they sold the job. Promising that we would love their work and be completely satisfied. They also claimed to clean up everything after they left. OK besides the many no shows from these people the work they did is not satisfactory. They gave us a couple years for guarantee on all their work. OK, first they did some work, and left with a bathtub clogged from all their spackle and crap they got off the walls-they left the bathtub filled with white milky water (I thought the plug was in holding the water-but it was not - the tub was completely clogged, second, they did not clean up at all )oh yes they cleaned up their stuff and washed their rollers in the tubs but left a mess for me to clean up. I DID It all. All the clean up was done by ME. Second one of their workers scraped up my bathtub in the other bathroom cleaning thier tools - I made them aware of it and they said well we are firing that boy anyway. They never offered to fix this. I pointed out that we had many paint spots on our furniture and carpet, which they just left- she kept saying we laid down tarps-well those tarps did not stop all the spots-we did not paint so we know where the spots came from). Also after they painted the interior doors, they closed them too soon and we have stick marks from the door paint not drying-they are very rough areas on the doors from hitting the frame. OK a couple weeks after the work was completed the one bathroom showed marks of different paint colorings due to the glue from the wall boarder - they repainted it - that bathroom is ok. The ceiling looks like crap but we won't go into that. The other bathroom, just after a couple months, the ceiling started to bubble and peel. They came out after many no shows and scraped the bubbling areas, spackled and repainted. This happened again after another month or so and they again, came and scraped only those areas, spackeled and painted-only those spots. Well it is all bubbling again and now they are claiming we should have replaced the wall board instead of painting first. When we had them out for an estimate, we told them that we really felt that the ceiling needed to be replaced. They said NO and that they would make it beautiful and just seem to be passing the blame. Now this time I don't want them out here as I really don't think they know how to do a professional job. NOTHING they have done for us is professional. NOTHING. I am ashamed to say they did the work. When they came back the 3rd time to fix the bathroom ceiling they calimed they wanted me to sign a waiver stating they were done fixing the bathroom - I REFUSED to sign this as this would void my warranty. These people promised they would fix and make things beautiful. They do this every time you talk to them, but their work speaks another issue. Nothing they promised was carried out. The ceilings needed some work prior to being painting of which they said was NO PROBLEM and would be beautiful and that we would be extremety happy with their work. Promises promises but nothing looks professional. They say one thing, then send their kids to do the job who just seem to hurry and rush to "get it done" not doing what the father and mother promised. Another example of this: I asked what I needed to do to have the areas ready for them. I was told nothing they would take care of everything. I asked about wall switch plates and the ceiling vents-again they told me they would be removed so they could paint. WELL the kids painted around these things and did not remove them. I went around and removed the covers and the ceiling vent cover for them on the next visit showing them they needed to paint these areas. So what was promised is not done by the kids. In an email to them dated 2-13-2011, I stated that I would like a refund for the bathroom ceiling and that I would be getting another contractor to come and fix the falling down ceiling. We no longer want them in the house due to the way they work and due to the promises made but never kept. Never did we ask for money to replace the damaged tub, clogged tub or spots on furniture and carpet. We have tried to work with them throughout, but they give excuses after excuses and now they seem to be trying to blame us for the ceiling that we wanted fixed correctly the first time. Had they done what we wanted (replace the whole ceiling in the first place) none of this would be ongoing like it is."

Additional Communication Between Claimant and Showtime Painting Hide
  • Feb 15, 2012, Showtime Painting (responding party) added:
  • Showtime Painting are now trying to blame issues on my roof. Stating they will complete services to my satisfaction once we get our roof repaired. There is nothing wrong with our roof. We hav NO leaks. If we did, the leaks would be in our attick and that is completely dry. PLUS roof is fairly new! Our roof did not damage our tub, our roof did not cause the glue from the boarder to show through, our roof did not and does not cause the bathroom ceiling to bubble which NEVER did that until they painted it. Problem is with their work. It is just sad that they are now making lies up to cover themselves. Things that never happened-- eg: that we had someone else work on the bathroom with the issues and are not happy with that work either-this conversation never occured. They seem to be making things up as they go. Really sad.
