Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"After receiving notice that AIG had a policy on my father I contacted AIG via the telephone number listed. Discussion with their Analyst who allowed he could not share any info until documents were filled out and received I inquired from him what the policy amount was and the response was "about $11.00" but he could not disclose details until docs. had been rec'd. I filled them out, sent them via reg. mail. No word from them for weeks, I called them. a second Analyst, "Sir we cannot discuss anything until--, a week later I called again they needed other docs. and this person advised me that the first one could not or should not have discussed any detail and specially the amount. Finally death certificates were obtained at a cost from the City/ State parent was citizen of . other docs. notarized, and forwarded and finally acknowledged after further phone calls to more Analysts. As administrator of both deceased parents estate I expected some notice of how the policy settlement would occur. Instead suddenly I received a phone call from my siblings that they had received checks in the mail stating for policy settlement in the amount of $1.37. The total of all checks to all my siblings added up to near $11.00. I filed A COMPLAINT to AIG's President and to the Chair Person of their Regulatory, Compliance and Public Policy Committee. Reg. mail, the Pres. letter returned unopened, the Chair person evidently generated a phone call to me. I had asked for reimbursement of funds to purchase Death Certificates and sending regis. mail. To make the story short her answer was; "We do not pay for such----You could have opted out of doing anything had you chose to do so--- You could have believed that Analyst's $11.00---" I was not able to prove that who would ever believe a large Insurance co. such as AIG would go that far to settle a $11 claim specially when many of their Analysts would not permit any discussion about details. The woman caller finally divulged details after pressing for them.. I agreed that had I been given the amount and details she had given me I would have opted not to pursue the matter.
