Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I recently took a trip to Europe, and before I left, I activated the international capability of my Droid Incredible 2. I spoke to a Verizon representative and purchased an international data package. During the trip, I received a couple of notifications via e-mail that I had exceeded first $25 and then $50 in data roaming charges. So twice I called and spoke to the Verizon International people about the charges and was assured that my data package was nowhere close to being used. They did not mention any additional roaming charges. I was shocked upon receiving my bill today that I had accrued $656 in global roaming charges. I spoke with a Verizon customer service representative to ask about why I had been misled about these charges during three telephone calls with Verizon, and she informed me that she was not privy to my conversations and, thus, could do nothing. She did finally agree to knock 18 percent off of my roaming charges, which amounts to $113. I feel that I made substantial efforts to check on my international plan and charges -- calling before and twice during my trip -- and that Verizon has used deceptive practices to, first of all, charge for a data "package" but then socking it to the customer through roaming charges. Had I been properly informed that I was accruing exorbitant charges, I would have ceased to use the phone, but I was not told anything during TWO phone calls that I made to inquire about the charges. I feel this is a very deceptive business practice by Verizon, and I would like to see some kind of further resolution take place."
