Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"Purchased sunroom from Solvay Glass. Was given a homeowner's lifetime Warranty. First had issue with moisture wicking through the floor and causing mold. Contacted them and they claimed it was not their fault. Took care of the issue but sealing the bottom of the exterior panels. Thought that had resolved the issue.

This past winter roof developed a leak. After the snow melted besides having a roof leak also noticed that there was mold all along the the exterior walls of the room. Again called the manufacturer because the floor panels had started to rot and the outside coating of the floor panel was deteriorating. Sent them pictures and the manufacturer again said that the issue was due to lack of flashing that should have been installed. Also had an independent contractor look at the situation to get an estimate for repairs and he also stated that the problem was because no flashing was installed as the root of the problem.

Contacted Solvay Glass and notified them of both the roof leaking and the water wicking along the exterior wall and the deterioration of the floor panels. Several e-mails and phone calls were sent back and forth with the result being that they said that the room was out of warranty and they were not going to take any action to come out and look at it or repair the damage caused by their improper construction of the room."

    Complaint Detail
Approximately 10 years ago, we had a sunroom installed by Solvay Glass with a 50 year guarantee contract. This past fall, I noticed while cleaning the floors that there was a serious mold problem on the floor of the sunroom in the outer corners. Coincidentally, on the outside of the walls in this area are the downspouts. This I believe is a structural problem and I called Solvay Glass about it. I was promptly told that they didn't believe so and that it would cost me $88.00 to have someone come out to inspect it and I was supposed to send them the money prior to their coming out. This is ludicrous. My husband, then, looked at the contract and it said to write Solvay Glass of any problems, which he did and also forwarded a copy of this letter to the supplier of materials to Solvay Glass. We have since learned that this company no longer works with Solvay Glass. It has been about six months since lodging this complaint and we have still not heard back from Solvay Glass. The mold problem is getting worse and makes it impossible for us to enjoy utilizing the room. At this point, the chipboard type floor is becoming pithy and eventually, holes WILL start to appear. I would appreciate your assistance in this matter. Thank you.
    Desired Settlement
I would either like the floor replaced and the condition rectified to prevent any further damage or money forwarded to fix the damage ourselves.
    Desired Settlement: Replacement

  • Please review the response. I am also attaching a copy of our warranty that outlines the coverage.

  • Aug 18, 2015, Claiming party added:
  • Solvay Glass sent out someone to look at the problem, after they charged $95, to identify the problem. The outcome was a letter improperly addressed, and is contrary to what their inspector and an independent contractor both identified. The letter states that they couldn't identify the source of the moisture when looking at the edge of the deteriorating floor panel it is evident how the moisture is getting into the room. The entire process has been one stall after another to avoid taking responsibility for their workmanship and a product that they claimed would have a 50 year warranty.
