Statement of Claim
"I had given them 1800.00 for 10 private lessons and 10 class lessons. I had not completed my introduction packet nor my confidence builder packet which was $35.00 and $223.00 which they said would carry over to the $1800.00. Within two weeks they were asking me to bring in my checkbook so I could move up to the next level. I had just given the $1800 and now they were asking for more. I never dreamed I was getting into something that was going to break me financially if I continued. My instructor was great, but Im a single lady on a tight budget. They fail to tell you up front that it is expensive. They are constantly pressuring you to come to as many sessions as possible, pressuring you to invite your friends to come, but saying it will cost them to do so. They are supposed to give you 50 minutes of private lesson and I never got that. They waste your time on your 50 minutes of lesson to discuss what options we have and where we want to go from here. My 50 minutes should be spent dancing and learning. One private lesson I had another instructor who brought me to the big window looking outside and went into this big spill about people wanting to come dance but couldn't take that first step. this lasted for 30 minutes. I don't remember all he said, because all I could think about is he's doing this on my time. You get caught up in all there sales talk because for me I wanted to learn to be a good dancer, but I soon learned that they were all about how much money they could get out of you. They have it down to a science, but its sad because they take advantage of people. They don't care if you max out your credit card or take a loan out on your home to pay for these classes. They have you sign these cards after class. I was afraid to say anything bad because another student said they would not give you their best during lessons nor would they dance with you during events, even though you already paid. I also noticed on one of the Friday night events that the instructors will dance with the members who are in the bronze level or higher and ignore you. The instructors play favorites. Every time I turned around they were asking for more money. I paid another $125.00 for a winter festival contest that I won't be getting any benefit from. I've asked for that amount back and they said no. All I want is an additional $360.00 back added to what they have given me."

Additional Communication Between Claimant and National Dance Club Of Murfreesboro, Tn Hide
  • Mar 04, 2014, Claiming party added:
  • The only reason I made those comments is the pressure that is put upon us to write something nice. I spent alot of money and I expected to get my what I paid. i was constantly told by my instructor that what I wrote down affected him. I didnt want him to lose his job because I didnt feel like I was getting my moneys worth. If I had known when I signed up that the lessons cost $149 per lesson I would never had committed. In no way did I receive $149 worth of lessons. Again, the way you go about getting the students excited, telling them what they want to hear just so you can pull them into your little trap and take their money. I saw first hand how you treat someone if they complained. An older woman sat with me at one of the Friday night deals. Only one of the "professional dancers" danced with her the entire night. I asked her the deal and she said she made a negative comment on her comment card and they didn't like it so your people shunned her. I'd only been with NDC for two weeks and I had just given them $1800. She told me if I didn't want the same treatment then I should write positive things. I regret that situation daily. I assure you, I have told more people about NDC and what happened to me and have done everything in my power to discourage them from taking lessons and I will continue until my money is returned to me.
