Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"About two months ago, without warning and without justification, Microsoft suspended my (free) Hotmail account, one I'd used for 10 years. Their reason (expressed electronically because one can't speak to a real person at Microsoft) was that "it appears someone is using your account."

Microsoft asked me for certain security information so they could verify that I, Robert L. Mills, was the only person using the account, robertlmills@hotmail.com. I provided that information. I provided it a second time a week later, when I had heard nothing in response. I also e-mailed a technician who had once helped a friend of mine; that person never responded.

I sent a two-page typed letter to their headquarters at that point. The letter wasn't answered. It wasn't even acknowledged. What must one do to protect himself against this kind of arbitrary, arrogant conduct? Is Microsoft above the law? Are they immune from a responsibility toward the public to conduct business honestly and fairly?

Yours truly, Robert L. Mills, 1917 Sifield Greens Way, Sun City Center, FL 33573

  • Microsoft has ignored me from beginning to end. What they have done is beyond unfair (whether it's legal or not I have no idea). But their conduct should be condemned in the strongest terms.

  • Sep 20, 2012, Claiming party added:
  • As of today, Sept. 20, I have heard nothing from Microsoft.

  • Sep 21, 2012, Claiming party added:
  • This is now Sept. 21. Not only have I not heard from Microsoft, but they have raised the ante. Earlier today they froze my other e-mail account, rmills78@tampabay.rr.com, for about 15 minutes. I had no access to the Internet,or my e-mails, during this period. They didn't explain themselves, of course. But I had to play a game with them, i.e., I had to fit certain numbers into circles they provided. Once I had done this, they "congratulated" me for succeeding in whatever game they were playing. My e-mail account is now OK (of course, it was OK already). My question is, "Who died and left Microsoft in charge of the Internet?"

  • Sep 24, 2012, Claiming party added:
  • It is now Sept. 24. No word from Microsoft.
