Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"Mateflex sold me 1075 sq. ft.defective flooring tiles for $4,781 in 2006. Black sticky glue started oozing up between tiles within a year. Company representative admitted that the glue was defective and advised me to clean it up with adhesive remover or cover up with area rugs. Oozing became increasingly difficult for years as it eventually spread over entire floor and became back-breakingly difficult to remove. After 7 years, I contacted the Better Business Bureau who influenced Mateflex to replace and deliver the tiles at their expense. Mateflex offered my choice of any tile in their online product line, but refused my first and second choices. Their final offer was to replace with original tiles. Initially I declined this offer because I did not want to repeat the same glue problem, but when I realized that they were not going to provide any other satisfaction, I accepted this replacement offer. Meanwhile, the BBB closed my complaint, after which Mateflex refuses to send me any replacement tiles. In addition to the original $4,781 purchase price of the tiles, I paid $1,075 for installation, and subsequently more money on adhesive remover, plus many, many hours of intensive labor on my knees. As I am nearing 70 years old and am sick and tired of this problem, I recently paid $4,000 to cover up the awful tiles. Therefore, I would like compensation for 7 years of dealing with this substandard Mateflex flooring. I will settle for $10,000."

  • Mateflex offered to replace their defective tiles with any of their product line. They reneged on this offer twice and offered to replace with similar tiles which they also reneged. This company has strung me along for 7 years. Of course, I want customer satisfaction and reasonable compensation for 7 years of tolerating their flagrant dismissal of the problem.

  • Mateflex product warranty requires me to pay 70% of the replacement cost which would be over $3,300. Why would any customer have to pay anything to replace a defective product? Furthermore, Mateflex knew it was defective and refused to help.
