Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I was having problem with my furnace and called this business as they had advertised in a value pak for $49/call. Man came and started to look for the problem with the furnace and finally told me that I needed a very expensive part to fix the furnace. I asked how much and he said if he could locate the part he would call either in Ft Collins or Denver. He went out to his truck and then came back in and said he had located the part and it would cost $1695.00 but he could get it a bit cheaper of $1595.00. I didn't know what to do and finally agreed and signed his bill so he could get the part. He left, came back with the part and installed it. I asked him for his card but he said he didn't have one. I wrote the final check of $1512.75 on 12/27.13. He gave me a receipt which I have. Now on 1/10/14 my furnace is not working.
I had already figured (after he left) that I had been scammed so I called Northern Colorado Air
because I had used them before. They came right away and fixed the furnace so it was going again and charged me their regular rate of $69.95. Now I told NCA about what had happened with Good Guys and he was appalled. We looked at the receipt I had received and found it to be made out to some one else's name and address and a wrong date. (I admit I had not noticed this error) However the NCA man looked in his record and we found that this particular part costs $260.95. (I have a copy of this cost and the original receipt given me by Good Guys. I will go to the bank and get my original check for the record.) The NCA man said I should notify the BBB immediately. Now to give further information, I am a single woman, age 90, living alone and I have been scammed by this Good Guys business. I am embarrassed to be so dumb and taken in like this!! What do I do now??? I want to get my money back (all of it if possible as I live on social security) and that is my income. Do I go to small claims court? I can't afford a lawyer. What are your services at BBB?
