Claimant says:
"I had a roof put on 9/21/2012. I had a metal roof put on so that I wouldn't have any more issues with leaking. After the installation there was a rain storm in October 2012, and the roof leaked in many places. I contacted Erie construction and they came out to inspect the damage in October 2012. They denied any responsibility. They used every excuse including side ways winds so they would not be responsible for fixing any damage. The guarantee is for 50 years. Many times I attempted to contact them to have the problem resolved, but it was not to be. I contacted a lawyer and he sent them a letter, after which they did come out and repaired the roof but never repaired the inside damage. In May 2015, they were here again to inspect the inside damage and stated they would repair it, but that never happened nor did they contact me. Now there was another lead after a rain storm and they want to bill me to have them come out and inspect it. They are not standing by their warranty at all. I am 70 years old and they are just trying to take advantage of a senior citizen. I would appreciate any help you can give me."

  • In May of 2015 The service manager and I went to inspect Mr Vangessels roof at that time I did see some potential issue on the roof and also noticed that lack of insulation and ventilation on the rear section of the home at that time I informed Mr Vangessel that he only had 5" of insulation and no ventilation and it would need to be addressed as that would cause major ice damming, I also told him there were a couple of cosmetic issues with the install I had noticed and told him I would have a crew come back out and repair the few spots I had seen, we did so as promised on 5-19-2015 customer signed off had no leaking issues other than in winter months (ice damming) does not leak in the summer months.

    A service was generated on 2-3-16 said there was a leak in the washroom, on 2-8-16 our service Manager was there at Mr Vangessels home checking the roof over. There was an Ice dam on Mr Vangessels roof at the time of the inspection, Our service Manager informed him of the ice dam and offered to return in the spring to do a water test on the customers roof to either provide proof that the ice dam was causing the leak or to determine if there is an install issue. One major problem is the lack of insulation/ventilation in the problem area. This has nothing to do with our Install or the roof product itself.

    I contacted Mr Vangessel on 2-16-16 to discuss the issues and reassured him we would come back in the spring to do a full inspection and water test. if I find any issues with the roof install we will resolve those issues. The customer was not bait and switched and was not ripped off, our warranty cover this roof for 50 years but our warranty does not cover act of god (ice Damming) things that are out of our control.

    I will wait for Mr Vangessel to call us for the water test when weather permits and I will be there with the service manager to check everything over in its entirety. If its determined that the leak is from installation then will be more than happy to pay to have the drywall damage fixed.
