Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"Had colonoscopy in 2010 by Dr. Hassan Hassan in Hampton, VA. I was a patient who had been admitted for bloody diarrhea. He did an EGD which showed ulcers, went home with bloody diarrhea again readmitted. Dr. Hassan Insisted on colonoscopy, within the bloody area, but insisted on colonoscopy strongly. He repeated the EGD. Colonoscopy result with 4 knicks to the rectum in the colon. Had his surgeon friend, Dr. Gregory Kim, also at Sentera, fix me at no extra charge as they "traded out" on problems that arose. Dr. Kim did a resection, who told me that he removed 3 1/2 feet of my colon, and removal of rectum (inside). Said he formed a new one which should perform normally eventually. He botched that surgery. Discharged to home with inability to produce bowel movements. Was getting even more ill. Slipped into C. Diff - Pseudomonas colitis and was violently ill. After discharge from Sentera, went to another gastroenterologist and hospital system (Riverside), where after colonoscopy found a flag waving which would close when time to have bm. Scar tissue, bad surgery results, set up with surgeon. Had successful surgery until this past 10 months when things have returned to trips to the ER and doctor every 6 weeks. This weekend was another bad time which fell after visiting my best gastroenterologist. He said my case was such a shame. Initially my insurance company asked for lawsuit as the pathology tissue sent for inspection was normal at 899 diagnosis code suggesting accident. Tried to get lawyers twice. No one wanted to take the case as it would be too expensive to try. What about me and what I have to endure the rest of my life. My future is one of cramping, diarrhea at unexpected times, inability to eat a real meal without cramping and dumping. I am NOT the only patient who has been hurt by Dr. Hassan Hassan. That doc continues his lifestyle while hurting others before and after me. Either stop him in his tracks or compensate me for the times that I have to stay at home and sit on the toilet on and off for 8 hours. When I lived in Hampton, I never got well, lost my job, and had to move back to Farmville, VA where we owned property, and I can no longer work. This occurred in 2010 colonoscopy and subsequent colon resection, 2011 colon resection repeat to return bowel to partially normal actions with the constant use of Miralax and other drugs to produce results. Am unable to eat normal diet.

Yesterday went back to my normal gastroenteritis, Dr. Mark Titus in Newport News, VA. He said what happened to me was a real shame.

I ask you, why do I have to live with another doctor's shame? Dr. Hassan Hassan and his practice run people through in colonoscopies with many errors. They get away with it because they have a huge practice and the forms you sign say there is always a margin for errors - actually that comment should be percentage of errors fall within the norm. Is it normal to have your doctor ruin your life?

My husband died of cancer June 25, 2011. Just prior to that we took bankruptsy. I am a widow with very limited means and sick with no one to help me and no way to ever afford any assistance around my house to make repairs or help me with the difficulties of a normal life."
