Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"My brother has an implanted pain pump that can only be filled or adjusted with a Doctors prescription. He has been sick since November 2016, spent 3 weeks in ICU, and another 22 days in the hospital trying to get well. The hospital discharged him to a REHAB facility on 2/17 and his insurance will only pay for this care until 3/8. Due to finances we have no choice but to bring him home on the 8th. Because of major weight loss we were able to get his pain dosage reduced to the lowest possible dosage while he was in ICU back in January. However, now that he is on the road to recovery, fully conscious and trying desperately to perform the necessary, Speech, Physical & Occupational Therapy his back pain is back at a high level. The tech for the Pain Pump is more than happy to come to the REHAB facility to adjust the dosage, but his pain doctor, Dr. Sewell in Fort Smith, Arkansas refused to help unless he comes in to his office. I asked them if they realized how ridiculous that sounded? Response: I'm sorry but that was the order from the Doctor. We are at our wit's end, we need this resolved before we bring him home, but we are hitting road block after road block. Isn't the Doctor obligated to help the patient??????? What recourse do we have."

  • I also had a problem within doctor. I had received a call from someone in his office reschedualing my appointment. When I came in at the rescheduled time everyone swore no one called me to reschedule that I had done that at my request. I was dropped as a patient. After I got home I found a voice mail from his office saying they needed to speak with me to reschedule my appointment. I called the reception desk to play the recording. The receptionist exclaimed "oh shit" but the doctor never called me back. It didn't end up mattering at all.  I would not trust this doctor to care about you at all.
