Claimant says:
"In March of 2006, Cummings was hired to replace polybutylene pipes thoughout our residence. We were given a two year warranty on labor and ten years on fittings.
As soon as the job was complete, the pipes would 'bang' at the side of the houre where the shut off valve for the irrigation system is. At the time we thought that was not a problem. Three months ago the same banging noise started on the opposite side of the house when the toilets were flushed and shower was turned off. Realizing now there was possibly a poor workmanship issue, Cummings was contacted.
We spoke with a Mike Lopez who indicated that in order to determine that the problem was not caused by the company, he would have to send someone out to investigate, and "If It isn't our problem you will be charged $99.00 for a half hour and $24.oo for every fifteen minutes thereafter". We felt that there was a problem that the company caused and, in fact, did not trust the evaluation we would be given and charged money on top of it.
At that point we hired another plumbing company to look into the matter. Upon that investigation it was discovered that the pipes thoughout the entire residence were not secured and strapped properly, causing the pipes to vibrate. We were further informed that this vibration and rubbing against the wood would eventually cause leaks. We were then advised that the only way to insure that the problem would be completely resolved would be to redo the entire project.
It also should be noted that a permit was never obtained and the work was never inspected. An example of this is; Hammer Resterators should have been installed on the washing machine pipes to reduce vibration when the machine shuts off. If an inspection would have been conducted at that time....the job certainly would not have passed.
The original cost for the plumbing job was $3876.13. If we were to follow the recommendation given to us now, the job would cost approximately $6,000, in order to do it properly.
When you contract a job as enormous as having the plumbing changed in your residence, you would expect never to have to do it again.....Certainly not within six years. In conclusion we want this job done properly and NOT by Cummings Plubming. If Cummings is the only one that would be contracted to complete it, we want a permit applied for and an inspection done at completion."
