Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"Bought this 1999 Ford Taurus from these folks about 5 months ago. 2 days later after tuning it up we took it to Muscatine Tire & Wheel to get the oil changed. They showed us a bad tie rod end and ball joint that needed immediately replaced which also required a front end alignment. There's the 1st $500 bucks because when we called and talked to the guy that said he was the owner he said "Car is sold as is where is". So in the mean time we are driving on a temporary tag they provided because they could not find the title. We did not get the title until the 28th day after purchasing it and that was also after several more phone calls. So then the battery dies. We get a new battery from Reeves Battery, which lasts about 3 days. Seems that there is a short somewhere in that car that is draining the battery. So between the battery and diagnosis to find it, there is another $300 bucks and over a week. The owner of the car was hurt so he was off work. Mean time he is recuperating and we notice the car is leaking fluids. The fuel line is leaking and the transmission line is leaking by the radiator. So we get that repaired and there is another $200 bucks. So we get this car back and he has it for 2 days and it won't start. Seems the fuel pump has gone out. So here is our dilemma. do we fix that also?? Yep so there is another $300 bucks. We called them again and they laughed and hung up."

  • They hide things. Read the reviews on their facebook page....Oh yeah that's right they block the negative ones.

  • Mar 16, 2016, Bolt Motors (responding party) added:
  • Us at Bolt Motors try our best to sell quality used vehicles at a reasonable price. Mr Hahn bought this car for $825.00 AS IS 5 months ago also Mr. Hahn signed the buyers guide stating car was sold AS IS. We encourage 3rd party inspections before purchase however Mr. Hahn did test drive the vehicle and did not choose to get it inspected before purchase. Also we offered to buy the car back after the first time he contacted us about the ball joints. He chose to keep it.

  • Mar 17, 2016, Claiming party added:
  • We called to inform them of what had happened and the guy said the car was sold "AS IS" and they said we get cars in and people buy them before we have a chance to even check them out. Yep I was naïve in trusting these folks. That still does mean they offered to buy the car back. That is false.

  • Mar 17, 2016, Bolt Motors (responding party) added:
  • Check our Facebook reviews. He brought up one out of seventy reviews. We have five one-star reviews in only two of those have purchased vehicles. With a car that cost $825 you should expect to have to do some repairs. Be it from a private owner or a car lot. Your biggest concern when purchasing a car in that price range is that the transmission and engine are working properly. We all know the tire rod ends are not an expensive fix. It's a 99 Taurus parts are inexpensive for a car like that. But if you take it to a mechanic that makes commission of all the things they tell you what's wrong with your car. Expect to get hosed! So I will never understand how you buy a running car for $825 have to do some repairs to it to keep it running and you feel ripped off.

  • Mar 21, 2016, Claiming party added:
  • Had a transmission oil leak fixed and was told that the transmission is going out now. Ya know $825 might not seem like a lot to you but it is to me. Thank you for teaching me a lesson on how to NOT trust a crappy used car place.

  • Mar 21, 2016, Claiming party added:
  • Yeah also I like to comment on their "Expect to get hosed" comment. Just remember that Karma is a bitch.

  • Mar 22, 2016, Bolt Motors (responding party) added:
  • $825 isnt a lot of money for a running car and it sounds like to me 6 months later its still running. You are paying way to much for your repairs tire rods cost $20 and a ball joints is $50 so your labor must've been over $400. Whoever is doing your repairs are charging you to much. The statement Karma is a bitch sounds a like threat. If you buy a car for $825 and its still running 5 or 6 months later your doing good. The most important thing is you never contacted us so we could help you out with finding a less expensive way to repair your car.

  • Mar 23, 2016, Claiming party added:
  • You saying I did not contact you is an outright lie YOU even said I contacted you. The total bill to fix the car the 1st time was over $400 bucks it was not just the tie rods and ball joints it was labor, a front end alignment, oil change and a auto check up. I never said it was just what you are saying. Like I said $825 might be nothing to you but to some people its hard to come by. You guys said car was sold as is and basically laughed then hung up. The only reason that 5 months have gone by is that it took that long to save up the money to get it fixed each time something happened to it. I tried to explain that to you also. And me saying karma is a bitch is no threat its a fact. When you treat people bad, it will come back around to you.
