Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"Obtained an auto insurance policy in early January of 2016 with Affordable Insurance of Pawtucket RI and was quoted $1269 with a $190.35 down and $120 per month for 9 months plus a $5 installment fee.
After over thirty days I had still not received a permanent ID card or a bill. On Feb 16th I received a bill for $1414 less the $190.35 deposit and payments of $159.86 for another 9 months. I called the company (RI Automobile Insurance Plan) and asked why. I was told there was 2 violations on my license. I told them the circumstances and they told me I needed a statement from the insurance company at the time there was no payout on the second violation. I then proceeded to obtain insurance from the previous company which I did obtain. I called RI Auto Insurance and told them to cancel the policy, they told me I needed to do it through the agent. I called the agent and was told I had to go to the office to sign a cancellation notice.
I went to the office on 2/17 and there were a lot of people there, some man (I think was the boss or owner) asked me what I was there for and I told him cancel my policy. His expression immediately turned from friendly to hostile and told me to wait. There were three employees there at the time. I was put off for more than 30 minutes until all the clients in the office were taken care of. The "bossman" called me to his office and was so rude and insulting to me I was very annoyed and angry. As we continued to talk and he told me everything, I would lose my license, I would have to pay $120 cancellation fee, etc all the time in a very rude manner. I lost my cool and said something to him I immediately regretted, he told me to leave and he didn't want anything to do with me again. I don't know that the policy was ever cancelled completely.
I will be reporting the rudeness to the parent company RI Auto Insurance Plan, but I want to ensure that my policy was in fact cancelled. I will not approach this rude business man again and I will be reporting him and his business through other avenues."
