Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"On May 18'2012,we sent our son to this facility for Drug and Alcohol Treatment. Due to different circumstances he left June 15'2012. He was supposed to be there 2 months. A total of $17,500.00 was paid, not including $500.00 for medical and personal use.
We waited a year to get a receipt to file a claim for our taxes. The receipt claimed $17,500.00 for treatment, but he wasn't there the last month. I would only claim $10,000.00 on my taxes. I asked for $7,000.00 back.
In the last year we have trying to get our money back, they have refused. Kory Avarell has said the money belongs to us, but would like us to send him back down there again for treatment. My husband and I paid for this treatment with our money, there was no insurance. We are retired and there is no more money left for treatments.
My son has been in and out of jail the past year. He has a Court ordered Drug and Alcohol Accessment and Anger Management classes. He can get insurance though the State and attend Rehab Centers in our own state. We are tired of the constant hassle to get our money back. Thank you, J.K. Shiers"

Mr. Avarell, I'am asking you again to return our money now. I found a couple sites that refer re-hab centers. Talked with one of them and asked about Above it All Treatment Center. When he got back to me, stated why I couldn't find your business on one of the refer sites. Apparently they don't recommend your business and they aren't the only ones. You are also not BBB accredited.. I couldn't find it and neither could he. I could kick myself over and over for not checking into your business, but Michael was so anxious, sincere, and close to being hysterical if we didn't agree. Well, he told me I can file a complaint with the BBB, also gave me a couple of sites to rate or complain about your business that you can't correct or delete. I'am really getting tired of writing you and asking for our money back that does belong to us. When I talked to you the end of Dec, 2013, you admitted as much. But wanted us to try the intervention thing. Guess what didn't work. And now that he got out of jail a week ago, he's right back into it. Around July 1st, he will be back in jail for violations against his girlfriend. Enough is enough, just send our money back and close this case once and for all. Thank you, Joy K. Shiers

It isn't true, its a myth... we take those negative reviews off all the time. We have neighbors who are very angry at us and we have taken 30-40 off so far. You just have to have someone who knows what they are doing to take them off. I'am not interested in your money, I'am interested in Michael. And in getting you some peace. Is he currently living at home? If so, lets get on this, I can help. There are way too many former clients who die of this, and let me be clear, 90% do who don't get help. If you are interested in literally saving his life, lets work together to see what we can do... Just reply to this e-mail, you are interested in talking about saving his life(and improving your own so he doesn't keep driving you crazy) or not. Kory

I have no problem with my son getting help. This has been going on since 2003, he is now 26 years old. But he has to want to get clean to do it. He has told me over and over he has no intention of quitting his pot and alcohol. Getting clean means being clean of everything, drugs and alcohol. Re-hab will not work unless he is willing or wanting to get clean. He is able to get his own insurance and re-hab here if he wants to make that change. And until he does, we finally figured out no matter what we do to help, he has to want it himself.
So please don't make us feel quilty for wanting our money back and giving the impression of us not caring what happens to our son. That is pretty low.
    Thank you, Joy K. Shiers

  • Do not try and tell my parents that they don't care about my brother. We have been loving and trying to support Michael for 11 years. You have no idea all the money, time, effort, and tears that have gone into helping him. My parents are at the end of their rope and need that money to take care of themselves after giving so much of themselves and losing even more to the thousands of dollars and property he has stolen from them. We all love him dearly and want him to change his life, but you, of all people, should know that he has to want it and he doesn't. Give it back.
