Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"My problem began in the financial dept. with a woman named Laurie. I signed up for their outpatient treatment program ($6000 plus the $900 or more you are required to live in their sober living homes ). It was an upfront cost of $3000 plus sober living of $900 and then I was to arrange a payment plan after 30 days were completed--all this was notated on my documents and they also knew that I was currently unemployed. I was to be on a 90 day outpatient program. After my first 28 days were up Laurie called me to ask what I was going to pay a month and I advised her the most I could do was $25/week or $100/month at this time but that as soon as I found a job I would make higher payments. To make a long story short she called me back and told me they were eliminating me from the outpatient program and I had two days to find a place to live unless I could come up with $3000 by the end of the day. This conversation took place in the afternoon of a Friday and I told her it was practically impossible to find a new place to live over a weekend and if I had had that kind of cash she would have had it already. Her smart-ass comment to me was to "call my boyfriend to get money!!" She used profanity with me and told me to pack my bags. Then Laurie apparently thought she had hung up on me and continued a conversation with another women calling me an old crazy broad along with other things I dont care to mention. Little did she know that I had pulled over and not only put her on speaker phone with a friend on mine who was also in the car and who had also been attending their outpatient program and been harassed by Laurie, but I also put my phone on record. I called their office back to tell them it would be wise for her to hang up now as I was recording on my phone what she was saying about me and her rude and unprofessional comments. He then transferred me into her in which I repeated all the nasty things she had said about me, the client of the company contributing to her paycheck, and she was obviously taken aback that I had in fact heard her defamatory remarks. She called back later that day to (insincerely) apologize since she realized I did have her on record. I am asking for the full $5000 in retribution for my experience with Cornerstone. Their focus on money versus a client's well being was obviously in play here. Besides the monetary damage they caused me in dropping me from a group I desperately needed at the time, the physical, emotional and mental damage is beyond the $5000. Besides that, while living in the sober living home for the short period of time the house manager there made a comment to me that I found extremely painful, harmful and derogatory which is "shit or get off the pot" and don't keep coming back here. That is really what an alcoholic or addict does not need to hear when they are seeking help. This lack of concern and compassion is very harmful to clients, especially when they are dealing with pain, hurt and disruption they have already caused in families, friends and others lives. A person's mistakes dont need to be rubbed in their face, especially when they're trying to correct them. Bottom line is their concern is about the all-mighty dollar and not the ultimate survival of the client. I also have been in touch with my insurance company re: fraudulent charges on what my insurance company was billed so I requested a copy of my records from Desiree at Cornerstones records dept on April 16th, 2012. I left several messages on Desiree's voicemail and now today (Saturday June 9,2012) I called to get her voicemail to again request the status of these documents and was told she doesn't have a voicemail. I am through playing games so it looks like court proceedings are the only option."
