Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"COMPANY SUBMITTED BID FOR WORK TO COMMENCE DEC 7, 2017. WORK INCLUDED REMOVING CARPET AND INSTALLING TILE IN ENCLOSED PORCH; REMOVE LOWER PANELS ON PORCH, REPLACE WITH WATERPROOF PANELS; RESCREEN ALL WINDOWS ON THE PORCH. COMPANY STATED WORK WOULD BE COMPLETED IN THREE (3) DAYS.

WORK ACTUALLY STARTED DEC 12, WITH WORKERS REMOVING CARPET, PREPPING FLOOR FOR TILE INSTALLATION. WORKERS LEFT AFTER APPROX. 2 HOURS. RETURNED DEC. 18, 2017. WORK INCLUDED REMOVING ONE WALL PANEL; STARTED TILING THE FLOOR. I STOPPED TILE WORKER BECAUSE HE WAS LAYING TILE IN THE WRONG PATTERN. HE STARTED TO CHANGE PATTERN. WORKERS LEFT JOBSITE. I THOUGHT THEY WERE GOING TO LUNCH, BUT THEY NEVER RETURNED THAT DAY. CALLED CONTRACTOR TO FIND OUT WHAT WAS GOING ON. CONTRACTOR STATED THEY RAN OUT OF MATERIALS SO HE SENT THEM TO ANOTHER JOBSITE. THEY LEFT JOBSITE A MESS, NOT PICKING UP THE TRASH IN THE YARD, OR CLEANING UP THE TILE THAT THEY DID INSTALL. WE ASKED CONTRACTOR TO COME TO JOBSITE AND INSPECT WHAT HAD BEEN DONE AND THE MESS THEY LEFT. HE REFUSED TO COME OUT, STATED THAT HE WOULD SEND WORKERS THE NEXT DAY ( DEC 19) TO REMOVE THE TILE THEY LAID WRONG, AND REDO IT TO MY SATISIFACTION, FINISH THE WALL PANELS, COMPLETE WORK WITH EXCEPTION OF GROUTING TILE BECAUSE IT HAD TO SET 24 HRS BEFORE GROUTING. WORKERS RETURNED ON THE 19th, REMOVED TILE TO REDO TO MY SATISIFACTION, WHICH HE DID NOT DO. I HAVE DOCUMENTED WITH PICTURES SHOWING HOW HE LAID THE TILE INCORRECTLY AND IN A NON-PROFESSIONALMANNER. WORKERS REMOVED REMAINING WALL PANELS, REPLACED WITH PLYWOOD, SOME PANELS BEING CUT TOO SHORT AND WAS INSTALLED IN A WAY THAT COULD NOT BE WEATHER PROOFED. I WAS TOLD WORKERS WOULD FINISH PROJECT WITH EXCEPTION OF GROUTING. WORKERS LEFT JOBSITE THIS DAY, WITH PANELS NOT FINISHED, TILE NOT TOTALLY LAID OR CLEANED TO BE READY TO GROUT, TRASH NOT REMOVED. THEY ALSO RAN OVER A TREE IN THE YARD, NOT TELLING ME ABOUT THE DAMAGE . ASSUMING THEY WOULD RETURN ON THE 20th TO FINISH THE PROJECT, ( 8 DAYS LATER). TILE MAN RETURNED ON THE 20TH TO FINISH LAYING TILES, AND DECIDED THE TILE WAS NOT DRY ENOUGH TO GROUT THAT DAY,, AND LEFT STATING HE WOULD BE BACK ON THE 21st TO FINISH LAYING TILE, GROUT, AND CLEAN UP. HE RETURNED ON THE 21st, TILE DID NOT DRY DUE TO COLD WEATHER. I PLACED 2 HEATERS IN ROOM TO HOPFULLY HJEAT UP ENOUGH TO FINISH THE JOB. WORKER ASKED ME TO CALL CONTRACTOR TO ASK IF HE COULD COME OUT THE NEXT DAY TO FINISH, BEING CONCERNED BECAUSE HE WAS LATE GETTING TO JOB THIS DAY. WORKER LEFT JOBSITE STATING HE WOULD BE BACK ON THE 22nd. AFTER HE LEFT, I WENT OUT TO SEE WHAT HE HAD DONE. THE TILES WERE NOT COMPLETELY LAID AND WHAT HE DID WAS NOT IN THE CORRECT PATTERN, THE WALL PANELS HAD NOT BEEN FINISHED, THE TRASH HAD NOT BEEN REMOPVED. THINGS WERE A BIG MESS. AT 6:45 AM, ON THE 22nd, WE CALLED CONTRACTOR TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE WORK THAT HAD BEEN DONE, AND THE WORK THAT HAD NOT BEEN COMPLETED AS STATED BY WORKERS, AND ASKED CONTRACTOR ONCE AGAIN, TO COME TO JOBSITE AND INSPECT. CONTRACTOR BECAME VERY ARGUMENTIVE AND AFTER SEVERAL MINUTES OF ARGUING, WE FIRED THE CONTRACTOR, OVER THE PHONE, DUE TO HIS ATTITUDE AND LACK OF CONCERN REGARDING HIS WORK ETHICS. CONTRACTOR THREATENED TO PLACE A LEIN ON OUR PROPERTY FOR AMOUNT DUE. WE HAD PAID OVER 50% OF THE BID AS REQUESTED UP FRONT. CONTRACTOR CALLED BACK AFTER A FEW MINUTES WANTING TO TALK IT OVER. I STATED THAT RONNIE WAS THE ONE WHO FIRED HIM AND THATS WHO HE NEEDED TO TALK TO, BUT RONNIE WAS NOT AVAILABLE AT THAT TIME.

AT 7:45 AM ON THE 23rd, I CALLED CONTRACTOR BACK TO TRY TO WORK AN AGREEMENT TO RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. WE AGREED THAT HE WOULD CALL ME ON THE 27th TO SET A TIME TO COME OUT ON THE 28th TO INSPECT AND DISCUSS A SOLUTION. HE DID NOT CALL, OR COME OUT. HE DID CALL AFTER NEW YEARS, STATING HE HAD BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND WANTED TO TALK TO ME, BUT I WAS NOT AT HOME, AND HE DID NOT WANT TO TALK TO RONNIE.

IT IS NOW JAN 9th, AND HE HAS NOT TALKED TO ME OR RONNIE REGARDING A SOLUTION. THERE HAS BEEN SEVERAL FRIENDS WHO HAVE VISITED AND INSPECTED THE WORK THAT HAD BEEN DONE, AND ALL STATED THAT WE SHOULD NOT ALLOW HIM TO FINISH THE PROJECT, BECAUSE HE OBVIOUSLY DOES NOT KNOW WHAT HE IS DOING. AT THIS POINT IN TIME, WE WILL HAVE TO WAIT UNTIL SPRING TO REDO BECAUSE OF THE COLD WEATHER. AND WE WILL NOT ALLOW HIM TO RETURN TO PROJECT DUE TO HIS INABILITY.

I HAVE PICTURES TO VALIDATE MY ALLEGATIONS, BUT HAVE NO WAY TO ATTACH THEM TO THIS POST TODAY.

I AM GOING TO CONTACT OTHER CONTRACTORS TO COME OUT AND TELL ME WHAT IT WILL TAKE TO FIX THIS MESS.

IT IS NOW JAN. 9TH AND HE"

"First the company is under a Limited Liability Corporation, so you cannot go after any personal assets, even though they work out of their home. Update: owners are supposedly divorcing, accounts closing and work is not being done. Doubt very much they are any assets you can sue for and you will never get anything out of him. You aren't the only one he has taken large amounts of money from for work and work has ceased. He has lied to everyone like claiming deaths in the family as excuses. I understand the frustration and no one can afford to lose the money, but you should cut your loses and move on, what take years off your life trying to beat a dead horse. Long history, I mean when even your father fires you........"

"I seriously doubt he has an LLC or anything. He scams everybody and does illegal business practices. I suggest everybody goes after him as hard as possible. His address has been posted on here a few times so people can serve papers. If you have been ripped off by this man do the community a favor and do what it takes to shut him down"

"Is KC Handyman LLC properly licensed in your state? This sounds like an incompetent contractor not properly supervising workers. There is simply no excuse to lay tile in the wrong pattern; a competent and experienced tile layer knows the work is hard and expensive to redo and takes pains to get it right."

You are not the only one who has had issues dealing with this Company; I paid Corey and this Company $515.00 to replace a window back at the beginning of Dec. 2017; it’s now the end of March and the work has still not been completed. I have had a litany of excuses thrown at me by Corey, ranging from the window came in the wrong size to it being broken on arrival. When he did finally get a window that wasn’t “ broken” it turns out his guy had measured wrong. I have asked for numerous updates (entirely ignored) along with a receipt showing that window was indeed at least ordered (also ignored). When I explained to him that we were going with another vendor given the lack of activity on his part, he flatly refused to refund us our money and was rude to my wife. I think small claims court is the only option in getting him to refund this, however the address provided is for a call center and not his business; you can serve a summons if you don’t know where the person is unfortunately. DO NOT make the same mistake I did and hire him; you are likely to end up in the same situation. Lesson learned on my part

  • KC Handyman or Corey Richards ripped me off. They too showed up for work - about a month before starting your job, laid siding incorrectly amongst other things and refused to give me back my $2700. deposit. I am filing in small claims next week and recommend you do similarly as I tried numerous times to resolve the matter with Corey and his wife Ashton and they simply blocked my phone number.
