Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"There are a number of reviews on Yelp. Most of which are poor reviews of Samar Spa. I have had approximately 30 customers create 5 star rating reviews of my business. However only a small fraction of them have made it onto Yelp. My Salon has a 2 star rating as a result and an inaccurate assessment of my ethnicity reflected on it's web site. There are filters that are set on Yelp that do not reflect my good ratings and reviews. How can you help us to reflect a more positive and fair assessment of our salon, services and staff? Currently, as it stands the overall rating of my salon is unfair and does not refelect all reviews of customers that have taken time out of their busy schedules to write positive reviews.

  • Unfortunately, it seems the only way to combat negative reviews on Yelp is to post a rebuttal to the negative comment. Yelp itself, like other third party review websites, actually is not liable for the content that people post on their site. The Communications Decency Act of 1996 actually protects review sites such as Yelp from potential liability. The person that made untrue statements, however, could potentially be liable for their statement. In the meantime, if you feel that reviews have been filtered incorrectly, posting a comment to the actual review seems to be the best way to deal with the negative feedback.
