Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I was a Verizon Wireless customer for many years. At the end I had 10 lines. My bills were very high, but the customer service was good until about 3 1/2 years ago. Then everything went down hill. They hooked up one of my lines to a New York address. They billed me for calls that were made to Cuba, which no one in my family made. Every month or two there would be some kind of mess up on my bill that we would call about and they would find the error and correct it. The final straw was when my daughter received a refurbished phone from them that would not work properly. She tried to use it for quite some time, it just kept getting worse. She got her new phone, however Verizon did not send the box or shipping label to return it. We took it in to the local Verizon for them to send it in. They did. Then we got a bill saying we had to pay $299 for the phone that was returned because it was damaged. We switched to Sprint. I got a close out bill from Verizon for over $700. Then 2 months later I got another bill from Verizon for over $2400. I paid over $900 to them and offered to pay another $500 (the amount I had on the Edge plan for the balance still owed on 2 tablets and 1 phone. Mind you, the $299 for the damaged phone a rep had agreed to take that charge off. For one billing cycle it had been taken off. The next billing cycle they added it right back on. The 2 tablets that I purchased at our local Verizon, I did not go into the store looking to but a tablet. I went in to buy a screen saver. The woman rep in the store asked if I would like to buy a tablet as they were on clearance. I told her no. She said one tablet was $50 and the other $70. I said no because I did not want 2 years added on to my contract as we had been having so many problems with Verizon. She assured me that there would not be anything added on to my contract. She signed me up for it using her tablet, which she said was going dead, so she kept going back and forth with another rep having me sign things. It was a nightmare. I was horrified when I check online a few days later and found that the 2 reps had indeed signed me up under another 2 years contract. I phoned today to tell them I had already paid over $900 on that final bill, and that I was willing to give them another $500 if they would just close out the whole acct. They refused. I also find it very wrong that Verizon records your calls, but you are not allowed to record them."
