Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"Denial of damage of Fender Bass. For those of you that need to ship something via UPS, please be advised of the risk you have if there is any damage. Please study the UPS Tariff/ Terms and conditions of service so that you MAY be covered if damage occurs. Also be aware that the extra money you pay is no longer insurance but only to establish the value of the shipment. Thus it appears to go into their pockets as opposed to be worthwhile to the shipper. Here is their wording: UPS shall not be liable or responsible for: loss or damage to any package resulting from improper, inadequate or unsalf packaging or wrapping that fails to meet UPS's published standards related thereto set forth in the UPS Tariff Terms and Conditions of Service or at ups.com. UPS does not provide special handling for packages marked Fragile or this end up or any other such markings.
I have a UPS account with them and ship exclusively with UPS. I have been denied my damage claim to a Fender Bass guitar that was inside a 25mm padded gig bag wrapped in a foam material inside the bag. The actual shipping box used was as received and packaged as received from my vendor Fender. It had top and bottom cushioned cardboard as well as one layer of bubble wrap on the top. The instrument was examined before shipment and was in perfect condition.
I was told by the representative for UPS( Crawford & Co.) a Melissa Sherlock that some companies have received approval of packaging variations. My vendor Fender now does shipping exclusively with FedEx instead of UPS so I could not get any assistance from them. I requested that my UPS area rep contact me but received no call and I was forced to deal with the same person at Crawford.
I feel that the instrument was more than properly protected especially inside a 25mm padded bag. I believe that the package was handled in a negligent fashion in transit. I believe that it got squashed in transit to cause the damage. How it happened I do know. I do know though that it was in perfect condition when it left my store. If the packing works for my vendor Fender who ships all over the world, then why did UPS damage it.
With regards to Crawford, I would not be surprised if they received bonuses from UPS for fewer claim pay outs."
