Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"Total Care was supposed to refer a psychiatrist in early January. They gave me a referral and the appointment was for early February (8th, I think). I was having a difficult time and was hanging on until Feb. I finally made it to my appointment... it was not with a psychiatrist, but a counselor. I was very disappointed and called them for another referral for a psychiatrist. It took some time because my work schedule is very erratic... that was at least mid to late February before I was able to contact them. All this time, I desperately needed to have medication. Total Care found another place, Psychatric Consultants, I believe, in March. They gave my name to Psychatric Consultants. Psychiatric Consultants never called me because they don't accept Blue Cross Blue Shield insurance.... Whoever referred me to a counselor didn't know they difference in the indicators between a counselor and a psychiatrist, then they never told me that I had another referral, one of the doctors at Total Care even knew the counselor by name, and to top all of that off, I found out about the referral in April, after I participated in an outpatient program for depression and then had been in the hospital because of problems and complications of depressioin. Total Care dropped the ball... I've had problems off and on with swelling in my feet, ankles, and lower legs since January, they sent me a certified letter that I needed to find another doctor and that they could only see me in an emergency... I called because I had swollen glands (throat) and had run out of both medications, I was informed that that was not an emergency, and that they coulc not help me. As you see, they have had several problems with negligence. I want loss of income for all the time I've missed work because of my health issues. It is rather daunting when you consider that they are responsible for the health and welfare of the public. I could ask for mental anguish because of the loss of income and that I am considered to be unreliable because of my attendance at my job. To say that I am disappointed in their lack of professionalism is an understatement... Total Care has dropped the ball, not once, not twice, not even three times... they must do a better job of identifying psyciatrists and counselors, not depend on another entity to contact notification of a referral, stay on top of files and records, and be aware that their lack of persistence in due diligence does effect someone's health, livelihood, and mental state. They must do a better job of follow-up with their patient's referrals, professional attitude and responsibility, and ethical considerations.... people should be able to rely, trust, and depend on their healthcare professionals."

  • Its good the you have documented it all here. Hopefully you won't suffer more serious consequences of their inaction, but if you do the issues, and you calls for help are well memorialized here. Seems they did in fact drop the ball and TotalCare should make it right.

    Good luck.
