Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"While travelling to relocate my daughter to Portland, Oregon our vehicle developed a "random multiple misfire" diagnostic code...I was told by Mr. Neuman that testing performed by the mechanic revealed only ONE CYLINDER as being problematic and was then asked if I wanted to replace just the spark plug and plug wire of the offensive cylinder OR replace all the plugs and wires as basically the car needed a "tune up". I agreed to the second option of replacing ALL spark plugs and spark plug wires. The following day when I went to pick up our vehicle I was told by mechanic who did the work the vehicle still had a "sputter" when you first started the vehicle but sounded fine as you let it run while idling. I asked the mechanic if he had driven the car since the work was done and was told he had NOT driven the vehicle to test whether the issue had been resolved. He drove the vehicle and returned stating he now believed I had more than one cylinder involved as being problematic and I may have a bad coil. I agreed to pursue the option of TESTING and then replacing the coil if needed. I did not get to see or speak with this mechanic again as he was sent out on another repair job for a "regular"customer as it was stated to me. A coil could not be located in Rawlins and it was suggested to me that I drive 100+ miles to the Nissan dealer in Rock Springs, Wyoming. I paid the $450.45 charges for which I was billed by Mr. Neuman leaving with the same issue I had when I first entered Tom Neuman Truck and RV Repair. We then drove to Great Western Nissan and was able to immediately get in to the repair shop. After a SECOND billing for a diagnostic test I was told the that I had a BAD SPARK PLUG AND PLUG WIRE that was "arching" against the engine block..this is what was causing the initial "random multiple misfire" read I spoke of earlier and had relayed that info to Mr.Tom Neuman prior to work proceeding. This bad plug and wire is also one that I had been billed for as having been replaced at Tom Neuman Truck and RV Repair. The Nissan dealership said that 5 of the 6 plugs and wires had been replaced but this plug and wire HAD NOT BEEN REPLACED. Within an hour or so the vehicle was repaired and road worthy. I do have the name of the service manager at Great Western Nissan and had advised him of my intent to file a complaint against Tom Neuman Truck and RV Repair."
