Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"We purchased a new DSCW-710 Cybershot Camera last year on 4/23/13 directly from
Sony. We received it on approx. 4/27/13. Our granddaughter got married on May 3rd.
We took the new camera to the wedding and the camera would not come on, so we didn't
have a camera to take our own pictures. Then it would come on and then it wouldn't.
We were under the Manufacturer's one year warranty and also purchased a three year
extended warranty. On Feb. 25, 2014 we finally mailed this camera back to Sony. The
Laredo Repair Dept. called us and said the camera had corrosion damage. We definitely
didn't do anything to cause corrosion damamge. Then they said because we had the
extended warranty, they would send us a refurbished one. We told them we didn't want
the same model of camera back because we have had nothing but trouble with it not coming
on since it was new. We saw a different camera that they sell , the DSCH300/B. You can
buy this camera on Amazon for $188.00 new. They said they would make us an offer, if
we wanted it they would sell it to us for $144.37 plus $24.99 for an extended warranty.
We agreed, gave them our credit card number. Lia in customer relations handled this for
us. Then she come back on and says the warranty doesn't cover damage during shipment
to us or if we ever had to return it for repair later. We would have to get insurance from the
shipping carrier. I couldn't believe, if Sony ships it to us and it comes damaged, we would
be out the $169.36. We were so furious and told her to cancel that order and send us the
refurbished one out. We received the refurbished camera yesterday and the camera won't
charge. I called Sony Laredo Repair and Mike there said, "It wasn't a refurbished camera it
was new. I said," This is a new camera and it won't take a charge"? He then transfers me
to Technical Support, and I was talking to an Ella, who was in the Phillipines, for over an hour.
She comes back on and says we will have to ship this D____ camera back!! I told her I was
going to report this incident to the Better Business Bureau of Laredo, Tx. and also call Channel 6 News, in Milwaukee, Wi and tell them the type company Sony is and how they treat
their customers. They will put on the news at 6:00 P.M. and someone from Channel 6 News
will send someone out to Sony and call them about this issue.
Could you please advise us what to do. I just got out of the hospital. I've had two surgeries
and am very sick!! I can't talk to Sony anymore. It gets me too upset!!
