Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I made reservations from Sept 15 through Sept 20 at Rodeway Inn, Jericho Turnpike, Huntington, NY 11746. I am a retired priest. My closest friend and ally, xxx, is riddled with cancer and living in St. Joseph Guest House, 350 Cuba Hill Rd, in Huntington. I wanted to visit with him, made plane reservations and a car rental reservation. On Sept 12, xxxx called me and said he was too sick. He wanted to postpone my visit.

I canceled the reservations. But when I contacted Rodeway, they informed me that they do not accept cancellations and I would have to pay the full cost of using that room whether or not I showed up. I questioned that and the manager told me it was her policy. Then Bookings.com, through which I had made my reservation, contacted me and said they would try and make some adjustment. I also called my credit card, Chase for Amazon, and they could not find any way in which the issue of non-cancellation was recorded anywhere, but they would not put my payment on hold.

I am 77 years of age, living in subsidized housing (Cardinal Ritter Senior Se4rvices) in St. Louis. I cannot afford this loss. IS there anything you can do to help me?

The claimant's settlement terms were rejected with the following explanation:
  • I disagree with the explanation / grounds provided

    "Hello,

Guest made the reservation under the Rate Plan: Tiered Advance Purchase Booking (SAPR2B) which is a non-cancelable & non-modifiable under any circumstances. It is clearly explained to guest and accepted by them while making the reservation online or over the phone. You can contact booking.com(888-850-3958) or Choice Hotels (800-300-8800) to re-confirm the rate plan and policy. I apologize for the inconvenience but it is the policy which we have to follow as part of the franchise of Choice hotels.

    Sincerely,
    Nancy Gandhi
    General Manager
    Rodeway Inn Huntington Station."
