Statement of Claim
Claimant says:
"I Received a postcard in the mail in 2011 I believe that stated that we would receive a free cruise with 2 free airline tickets if we would attend a 90 minute seminar at the Crown Plaza hotel in Memphis, Tn. We did and were promised that would we receive the voucher for the free cruise and airline tickets, but their excuse was that the shipment did not come in and that they would mail them to us. They sold me on the vacation package cost around $2500 and took my credit card to finance $80 per month with a high rate interest charge from their finance company. Of course I never received the voucher for the free vacation and when I called the number they gave me there was never an answer. I finally used the vacation company... Which was an altogether different number Than the one for the Packaged Vacations company which I was given. This was a regular travel agency no. That contracted with Packaged vacations I believe. When I got to the resort I was told I did not get any special price, but the same price I would have received if I would through a travel agency online like Priceline.com. I finally contacted the billing company several months back and told them the circumstances and told them I would like to stop the charges, however they said I would be in default of the loan if I did not pay. They promised to check out the company Packaged Vacations, but I never heard back from them. About 3 months ago I received another phone call from Packaged Vacations and was told that I was behind on my membership for the year ( they also charge a $350 per year membership fee) and that I had points I could use toward a vacation or to purchase gifts and get free rest. vouchers). I explained my dilemma about them not honoring their part of the free vacations and she said they were aware of false promises that agents had issued and they were issuing these points to try to make amends. Like the succor I am I paid my membership 3 years in advance with a discounted rate to get more points. When I checked on this. I found out that the one site she mentioned abut getting free restaurant vouchers was one I could have gone online and got myself with nothing to do with Packaged Vacations and they were not free vouchers, but you had to purchase and you received a discounted rate. I am ashamed and appalled that I was taken by this company for round $4500 if you include the interest I am paying. I have found that other people were also when I searched online. I am sure I will never see my money again. I also went to the website Packaged Vacations and noticed the domain is up for sell as well. Is there anything you can do to help me? Or to advise memo if there is anything Incan do to get my money back? If this is not the correct government agency to go through, can you direct to whom I should go to with appropriate email and phone nos.?much or as little as you want. You’ll be able to add more or change what you’ve written on the next step.
